Hi everyone! I inherited a box of jewelry from my great-grandmother upon her passing this winter and just now made my way north to go through her things with my grandmother and mother. There’s some really great stuff in here! I found this ring and I love it. I doubt it’s a diamond because my great grandparents made a modest wage and were comfortable but not rich.
It seems to show a lot of color in the sparkles and it is kind of crooked in its setting, two other reasons I’m doubtful. I am taking it and other pieces to a jeweler today, but I wanted to get some Bees’ opinions! What are some older diamond simulants?
Compared to my diamonds (which admittedly are not very high quality or color) this stone looks crystal clear. Did they used to make rings with glass stones?

208bride: A good CZ or white sapphire might look that clear. It’s beautiful none-the-less.

From the pictures, it looks like white sapphire. However, if it’s throwing rainbows, it may be a CZ or glass.

Does the stone have a slight hint of blue in sunlight? If so, then I’d guess white sapphire. Otherwise white topaz is a possibility. If you had a loupe you could see if it was scratched up, ie fake.

Its probably glass..my mom has a ring that was her great grandmothers and it was glass and had a prism like cut to it..its a very beautiful stone whatever it is!

I think it’s impossible to tell from photos alone. You’ll have to pay to have it appraised by a professional.

i have nothing helpful to add but it is beautiful!
