i have a free shutterfly album offer i need to use soon and i want to use it to for one of our parent albums. For our own album we will be going with our photographer, but for our parents I decided to DIY since we want to include pics from the whole week in Jamaica in addition to our wedding day.
The specifics are that it is a 20-page 8×8 hard cover photo book (leather, padded and soft covers excluded).
is this too much or too little for a parent album?
how many photos should i choose to go in it?
And, what should i put on the front cover of a parent album? a pic of me and hubby? or something more generic, like a pic of the beach at our resort?

@dynamic_duo:I definitely think the picture on the front should be of you and DH and not a resort pic.
It’s difficult to tell you how many pics you should include for your parents’ album…it all depends. Will they want lots of pics of all the relatives? Would they be happy with just immediate fam pics, ceremony, and the staple reception pics?
I’d recommend going through the pics you are including in your personal album and counting the ones you think you parents would appreciate…then decide which you want to take up the whole page, and which you could make smaller (to include 4 pics on one page), etc…
Good luck! They will love it!

I did 8×8 for his grandparents and am going with 12×12 for our parents albums since I got the $15 for $50 mixbook groupons. I think 8×8 is a good little size, I use it all the time for vacation albums. The only thing is that it’s harder to be creative and fit a lot of picture on a page though with such a small book if you still want each picture to be a good size. I wouldnt recommend more than 4 or 5 pictures/page. There’s a photobook america groupon today for Boston if you’re another deal.

@pinkshoes: hmmm, i hadn’t thought it might be too small. i wonder if i should use the free offer for something else and then decide how big i want the parent albums…..
@Evie19: thanks for saying i should put a pic on the front of us! i wasn’t sure if that seemed weird or not.
i tihnk what i will do is make a folder of what pics i want to include, then see if it fits and takes it from there. we didn’t have relatives besides immediate family at our wedding, so there is not a ton of family pics i need to include. but i did also want to include some pics from the whole week in Jamaica, not just our wedding day. And as well from our AHR back home – especially since DHs sister and kids were at the AHR and not Jamaica, so we got some formal pics done with them then. they will definitely be included for his parent album.

For a parent album, consider a solid leather cover with maybe your names the date, I would skip the picture.

@USER876: thanks for the input, i will look into how much that costs. what do you think is a good size for parent albums?
i am also considering using my free offer to make a jamaica/honeymoon album (with no wedding pics, but everything else from the week).

@dynamic_duo: Depends on the layout, 8×8 is acceptable, 10×10 for sure.

For our parents we did a 35 page, 8.75″ X 11.25″ from my publisher (same as what we did for ourselves).
For the front cover we did a generic ring shot and then a kissy picture on the back.
I would go up to 6 pictures per page- we did 9 when there was only small portions of different pictures we wanted to feature.
I think the folder of favorites is a good idea. I did something similar (I marked the file names with an additional letter so they would come up first) and it made things a lot simpler.
