MrsEdamame:  Did you have a second choice? If you do then call them up and see if they have vacancies still, then I would contact the place you originally wanted and say if you don’t hear from them by a certain time that you are going to sign with a different place. I am going to assume that you have not signed anything with them based on what you have written …

MrsEdamame:  I don’t really have any particular advice for you other than to keep hounding them, but when DH and I moved into the house we live in now, it was a clusterf*** on par with what you’re gonig through right now. From the day we decided we wanted to live here until the day we actually moved in, we had no fewer than three different houses assigned to us. First they had our move-in date wrong, then they had the current occupants’ move-out date wrong, and then finally they assigned us a different house the day we showed up with the truck full of all our earthly belongings

We moved in and have had not one single problem since. Love this place. LOVE. So, even though it’s very unnerving and frustrating right now, hopefully things will work out for you the same way they did for us!

MrsEdamame:  They were indeed hard to get ahold of! Our housing complex has several locations that all have weird staffing hours, and it seemed like unless we talked to one specific person, nobody had any idea who we were or what we wanted (which was also very scary!)

I think when they say “don’t worry, we’ll take care of it” they mean that they must have plenty of wiggle room to make sure you have somewhere, anywhere, to live when you arrive. Our place kept saying that and we were like “HOW CAN WE NOT WORRY YOU SAID WE HAVE NOWHERE TO LIVE.” But then when we arrived, there were apparently several vacant houses and it wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as we imagined.

MrsEdamame:  yeah, unless they are TOTAL SHITBIRDS, then they clearly have at least a backup to a backup plan of where to put you when you get there, or else they wouldn’t be telling you not to worry. Probably they are just trying to figure out when exactly all the current tenants will be leaving, and how much time they’ll have to paint/clean etc and then figuring out where to put you once all those matters are settled. I think (hope?) that most humans understand the need for shelter and a place to park the U-Haul after a big stressful move! Fingers crossed for you 🙂

MrsEdamame:  Ugg that is terrible I would be so pissed especially because you moving from out of state it makes everything harder! I would stage a phone protest! FI and I are in Boston currently we moved also to be closer to work. We had to find our apartment 6 MONTHS in advance and all the good places were already gone! it still took forever to get all the paper work in with the Building management. 3 years later there still horrible it’s an old brownstone with a crappy elevator I once called to say I was stuck IN the elevator, they said they will send out someone tomorrow! All I could do was laugh (side note my FI came home and broke me out while I was screaming at them) I am already looking for Sept 2015!
