Ooh I am the queen of thrift shops! My favourite so far is this transformer three tier serving tray for $2.99:

The blue bowl and spoon in the background is also a thrift store find, I think it was $1.99. I’m going to fill it with Lactaid pills and put it beside the cheese buffet as a joke for FI (he always forgets to take his pills, it’s awful!!!).

I’ve been collecting silver teapots for all our centerpieces. Once I get them cleaned up I’ll take photos ๐Ÿ™‚  I’ve also found a vintage cake topper from the 60s and some wood toys I’m turning into boutonnieres for my nephews and stepson. Oh and I’ve also bought loads of stainless steel cake platters for a couple bucks each. I’m so happy with my thrift store savviness ๐Ÿ˜‰

i’ve been VERY busy at the thrift stores! One of the desserts i am having is tiramisu in vintage tea cups. I am looking for about 80 total. I have some guidelines i follow:

they can’t be more than $1.25

no need for the saucer

they should have a british look

So far i am up to about 55 … it’s a labour of love

@Mollytov: That’s a terrific idea! I love it! It’s good that you’re starting early. I’ve been collecting all my teapots for a while and I’m glad I didn’t leave it any later since it seems like I’ve exhausted their supply. I used to be able to find at least one in every store (I’d go once a week) but now I only go about once a month. I think I have enough teapots, but I’m addicted to finding them now! LOL! My rule is that they can’t cost more than $10. I think my store figured out what I was up to and they started pricing them at $30 all of a sudden!!!! I changed stores fast ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got a number of (prolly 30/40) vintage plates in different sizes for 10 bucks!

I’m going to use them to make our cupcake stands =)

Oh bakerella, i hear ya! I did start early and i spread the word to friends and family and every so often i get given one from them. It’s so nice!

The teacups themselves can be more than $15 at a thrift store. Crazy! I have to stop by almost everyday on my way home from work to hunt.

@mollytov: we found a bunch of teacups at thrift shops, but the best place we got them was at auctions. They would sell whole sets of dishes dirt cheap (cheapest was a whole set of china for 50 cents) and since we didn’t care if there were 2 or more alike, this was awesome for us. My shower is a tea party theme and their favors have something to do with the cups. i don’t know too much of the details but I was told they looked great!

I guess my best wedding thrift store finds were 2 spiral votive candle holders for my head table, $2 each and a 4 foot tall metal candle holder that holds 7 ball candles for $5.

I’m trying out the Martha Stewart mercury glass DIY this week (waiting on Krylon to send me the sample of Looking Glass spray paint). If it works out I’ll be raiding thrift shops again for vases, etc to turn into mercury glass candle holders!
