What is your degree in?
What can you actually do with it?
What do you actually currently do with it?
What is your dream job?
Great question! I love hearing about everyone!
Currently:
My degree is a BA in Philosophy
I can do anything with it! (or nothing, all depends on how you look at it ;))
I am currently a youth director at a synagogue and I love my job!
I'll be going back to school in the fall for a master's in social work so my answer will be quite different soon!
I have a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. It took me 5 years of hard work so I am quite proud of it :)
I can do loads of things with it. Basically any industry needs engineers!
I'm currently working for a military contractor doing qualification testing on computer products. Ie. I make sure things meet all the requirements laid out by the customer. It doesn't really relate to mechanical engineering though, more like electrical or computer engineering, but oh well!
I have a BA is psychology, and an M.A. and Ed.M in Psychological counseling (the Ed.M doesn't have anything to do with education, which is a question I get a lot, lol!). I currently work as a social worker and am working toward gettiing my license as a mental health counselor, which is what my degree is meant for.
I have a B.A. in English Writing and Rhetoric, and an M.L.A. (master of liberal arts). I pretty much do anything that involves communication. I've been a technical writer in several different fields. Right now I do marketing/news writing/document design for a university department.
I have a BBA in business economics.
I could work for the federal reserve, any banking job, or even small bits of research.
I'm actually working as a freight broker for a transportation company. It's not ideal, but it pays the bills until I start my PhD in economics Fall of 2011.
BA in history and poli sci, worked as an analyst and currently a consultant at an hr firm, you know both of those "adult job" misnomers... LOL
starting law school in may!
My degree is in Chemistry.
There's a bunch you can do with it--research, quality control, teach, a bunch of different things for pharma companies.
I'm in law school, so I'm not using it in any of the above ways. I'm hoping to go into patent litigation, which requires a science background.
I have a BA in communications. However, I graduated in 97 with a concentration in TV and radio, so I can't do dick with my degree anymore. I mean, when I took my editing classes, we were still cutting and splicing tape. My degree is totally obselete.
Plus, I worked part time doing radio station promotions after college and I ended up realizing how much I hated radio.
Now I'm an account manager at a digital agency. Having a comm degree can get you many entry level jobs, but I got my current job due to my past job experience, not my degree.
My degree (will be) in biochemistry (BS)
Like Bostonbee said above, i can do a lot with it. Biochemistry is chemistry of the living so my research could take me in a different direciton than just a chemistry degree.
I plan on going to pharmacy school or a phd program for nutritional biochemistry/toxicology.
I have a Bachelor of Health Science in Speech language pathology, then I decided I didn't want to be a SLP. I got my Masters in Social Work and work as a gerontological social worker with plans to become licensed to do therapy. You can be a case manager, non profit director/program manager, therapist, etc.
Degree: Bachelors in Communication/PR, with a minor in Design
Current Position: Human Resources
Dream Job: Still searching....
I have a BA in psychology. I've been working in the nonprofit sector for 3 years (not sure how much of the psych background I actually use though!) I'm going back to get my MPH (masters in public health) in the fall and plan to do health education programming after that.
I have a BA in Advertising and Marketing
You can get lots of different jobs...mostly sales related
I am currently NOT working but worked at age 22 as a manager for a mass brand so that was pretty good/high up...I was the boss & supervisor of 75 people...although not super related to my degree
Honestly? I think most jobs I'll work won't relate to my degree...I wish I got it in something else...but I'm glad I have it :)
I have a BS in Business Administration/Marketing
I can do pretty much anything, lol
I currently run my own wedding photography business.
B.A. in Communications - Journalism and PR
Currently working on M.A. in Corporate Communications
Still working on the dream job/what I can actually do with all this money I've spent on my education.
BA in Management Information Systems with minors in Accounting and Applied Statistics.
With my degree, I can nearly do anything related to IT from software to hardware.
Right now, I am currently a database programmer and have been for the last 4.5 years. I can continue to grow in my field just by earning a few certifications.
Degrees: I have a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and will soon (May 2010) have an M.S. in Civil (Environmental) Engineering.
Current Position: Senior Associate Engineer with an environmental consulting firm
Dream Job: Working in pollution prevention or something a little more educational with regards to the environment. I used to think I wanted to work as a lobbyist or a political environmental advisor because I would have the technical background but be able to explain things in a more colloquial manner. I don't know if that even exists, but at least I have job security right now. And the M.S. plus my PE will make it easier to get a job if we ever move.
I have a double major in child psychology and personality psychology. I wanted to go to law school and either work as an advocate for the court for children or to serve on the board of education as an attorney and fight for the rights of children with disabilities. Then I worked in a law firm and took some legal classes and decided I absolutely hate it. So now I work in Human Resources and focus on employee relations and employee moral. I got out of school and applied for jobs in marketing and hr and I got one in hr LOL
1) I have a BS in chemistry, minor in materials.
2) I could teach, do engineering, do research, work in a hospital, do environmental work, QA, engineering, development of specialized coatings, run a lab, etc. It's a broad field but most people choose to pursue a masters or PhD so they can actually work as a chemist/scientist. Most poeple use it as a "leg up" degree into something else.
3) I'm a metallic materials engineer
Now: Applying to an accelerated radiation therapy program (only 12 months because i already have a degree-yay!) and if i don't get in, i'm going to get some health care experience and apply to Physician Assistant school (which is the eventual plan, yet riskier).
BA in POlitical Science with a minor in Management
MLIS - Master of Library and Information Science
Jobs so far.
Assistant Librarian in an International Think Tank based in DC.
Serials and Electronic Collections Librarian at a National News Magazine's DC office.
Reference Librarian at a medium-sized law firm that specialized in Health Care.
Reference Librarian at a large law firm that focuses on no one specific practice area.
Bachelor of Science in Architecture and well I'm an architect. :P
If you want to get technical my level is Designer I.
I have a BFA in Music - Vocal performance
I can be a singer
I work for a PE firm doing general officey stuff
I developed severe vocal chord problems during my senior yr of college, so my dreams of opera stardom were quickly put to bed. Moral of the story? Join your college's choir, audition for a play, do some community theater - don't spend 4 yrs and $120k on a degree that leaves you with a degree in something that is essentially a hobby.
I have a BS in Medical Techonology.
People who graduate with my degree typically work in clinical labs (hospital laboratories or reference laboratories). We are the ones that test your blood/urine/tissue/etc. to help doctors diagnose or monitor diseases.
I'm a clinical lab scientist working in research for one of the state universities under their school of medicine.
Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences...here's what I can do with it: go to grad school. This major was set up at my undergrad school just so people could fit in all of their pre-reqs for PA/Medical/OT/PT school.
As of May 10, I'll have a Doctorate in Physical Therapy...here's what I'll be able to do with it: finally have a grown up job :)
I have a BA in Literature. I currently work in Human Resources.
I feel like there's a lot of things I could do with a literature degree (e.g. publishing, teaching, critical work, etc...), but my dream job is to be a librarian. I'm currently volunteering at the local public library, and I'll start applying for grad schools next spring.
undergrad in studio art, masters in art therapy
i could be an artist (starving), or use my masters and be an art therapist, for those who don't know is a therapist who uses art to help people express themselves, usually if they have trouble doing so verbally. (they can draw their feelings out instead of talk about them, or use another form of media like clay, collage, etc). i could would in all sorts of places; schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.
i am currently unemployed. i quit a way too stressful job before the wedding and we decided that i should take advantage of not working and plan the wedding and now we want to start ttc, and since i get bad migraines and won't be on my meds (in the process of getting off of them) we're scared of me getting migraines, being pregnant, and working all at the same time.
We've got some smart and hardworking bees around here! :)
I have a BA in journalism and mass comm, and a minor in women's studies. I'm sure if I actually liked my major after I committed myself to it and got some internships, I could be working in journalism right now.
I ended up doing a couple different education-related jobs, including two years of AmeriCorps, and I'm now in an MA program from ed psych/counseling psych.
Dream job - working at a university with multicultural and/or first-generation students in advising/student programming.
BA English, Certificate in Journalism (it's like a BA, without as many electives)
I'm a Research Associate, which is a bad description. I do a mix of proposal research and development and I also edit/format reports, newsletters, briefs, etc.
My fiance was an English and Poli Sci major and he does straight up proposal writing.
I think your major matters less than your experience. I didn't do the right internships in college and it shows. I wanted to go into communications/PR, but I didn't do an agency internship so now I'm a little stuck.
I'm applying this fall for my MFA in creative writing. My dream job is to make other people read my favorite books :)
I got my BA in Psychology and am now working on my Specialist Degree in School Psychology <-- which is a strange degree between a Masters and a PhD that only exists in School Psychology lol
With my Specialist degree I can work either at a community college as an instructor or in the public school sector as a school psychologist. I look forward to doing the latter as it will never be boring and school psychologists are hired on contracts like teachers, meaning...I get summers off for the rest of my life!
I have a BS in Marine Biology and a MS in Biological Oceanography.
THere are a ton of academic and government jobs I could have gone with (I was in school for my PhD when I decided I only wanted my Masters), but I decided that since my specialty was marine microbiology, I could easily transition into drug development. Now, I work for a company that is developing new antibiotics for drug resistant bacteria. I love that it is still interesting and makes a difference!
I'm working towards my BA in Psychology. I plan to continue to to get my Master's or PsyD, probably in Clinical Psychology.
With that, I can work as a counselor for the public or private sector.
I plan to work in counseling, although I'm not sure what field yet. Eventually I would love to do Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, but it's not practical monetarily so I'll be getting experience elsewhere.
I have a BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders, which, like juliaelizabeth, qualified me to go to grad school in either Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
In a few weeks, I'll get my Masters in Audiology. Which doesn't qualify me to do jack. (it's a formality).
This time next year, I'll receive my Doctor of Audiology, which will finally allow me to be a practicing audiologist.
My dream job would be an audiologist that gets paid millions of dollars. :)
I have an AAS in Visual Design, BS in Computer Art, and halfway through my MS in Information, Design and Technology.
There aren't too many jobs that you can do with this degree...you can design websites, print publications, or 3D animations. Or, you could work in just about any position and use it as a strength in designing marketing materials!
Luckily, I landed an amazing internship in the college's web development office, and soon after graduation was offered a full time job with the title Web Coordinator. Basically, I maintain the college's online presence and support all administrative offices at the college with their sites. My MS will allow my to move up the chain of command and secure a job for my future since just about anyone can design a website these days :)
i have an associates degree in social work.
i currently work as a superviser of a group home with mentally challeneged clients. -i absolutley love it!
i'm starting on my bachlors in soical work and plan on getting my masters.
B.A. in Psychology with a lot of extra coursework in biology. I worked for three years as a research assistant in a behavioral neuroscience lab at a university after graduation.
Currently about half-way done with an M.D. I hope to be a family physician with obstetrics working with the urban underserved.
I have an undergrad degree in Accounting and I am working on my MBA. I can work in a company doing accounting or finance work or I can work in the public accounting field. I was working in public accounting before we moved but right now I'm unemployed. I'm not sure what I want to do in the future, either work for a company or possibly own my own business.
I have a BA in Spanish and Theatre and a Masters in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I guess that means I can act (and be really poor) or translate (which I do) or teach Spanish and ESL (which I also do).
My dream job would be as a zoologist or vet... I'm a little off base with my current degrees! Goods news is FI is really supportive of that dream, so one day when we live close enough to a vet school, it's on!
What is your degree in? BBA Marketing
What can you actually do with it? there's a lot you can do with it, I really only want to do advertising though. Honestly the degree is just a piece of paper though, marketing classes were always just a list of vocabulary to study. My day to day job is very different than that, lots of numbers and strategic thinking.
What do you actually currently do with it? work in media planning (advertising) for an automotive client.
What is your dream job? I want to be Samantha Brown on the travel channel...I guess that would be a travel journalist? She has a sweet job, travel for free and make a 30 minute program about it.
BA - studio arts
What am i doing?: nothing related to my degree, that's for sure. Freelance on the side.
Dream job - own my own design business!
