bora bora is definitely on the list along with seychelles, rimini, portefino, lefkas near egremnoi, and punta cana if we're just talking about beaches.
Africa was our dream, but we've got some more immediate dreams that require some money (like getting out of this condo and into a house) so we decided we'd work towards Africa for an anniversary trip and go to Panama. Panama is a place we talked about early in our dating and it fits the bill of acitve, remote, less traveled and eco sensitive.
We'd do a month-long European tour. I've never been, but really want to go and neither of us are drinkers/beach people. I know we'd have an absolute blast in Europe.
Instead, we're spending a couple of weeks in the Bay Area where we met :) It honestly will be awesome and romantic to go back and part of me is happy that we couldn't quite afford the European blowout.
I would go to Thailand for three weeks. It's pretty affordable once you get over there, but the airfare and time off is the tricky part. I've also been taken by photos of the Maldives.
Bora Bora is so awesome, I went there years ago. But we couldn't afford to go that far!We ended up going to this incredibly unique, romantic AI place in the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica. It was a great deal and just wonderful.
Definitely a month in Europe! My FI is a wine lover and foodie, and while I am somewhat those I am also a beach lover! So I see us splitting time between the coast of europe - in places like Nice, and the wine areas, like Tuscany!
We're still 7 months and some days from our wedding so we are still coming up with ideas of what we can actually afford, which is hard because we're still trying to figure out just how much the wedding will cost! We're looking into 10 days in France/Italy, or South America, maybe Argentina.
I loved my do-nothing resort beach honeymoon in the Riviera Maya. But with an unlimited budget and vacation days, we would have chartered a sailboat and sailed around the Greek Islands.
We would have gone to Ireland in a heartbeat if we'd had the money. We're both of Irish descent and undoubtedly obsessed with all things Irish. We never even considered anything else until we realized it would cost us almost as much as the wedding would to go.
Then we played with domestic locations, Sedona was high on the list, as well as NYC.
But we ended up on PCB in a borrowed condo...which is perfect, cause I'm going to need the sound of the ocean and lots of booze to get over these 14 months of engagement!
We spent a wonderful week in Cozumel, Mexico at the Aura Wyndham but if we had the money I would've loved to spend a few weeks overseas. Fiji, Tahiti and Thailand are among the places I'd go to. Right now I'm hoping to start saving up for a 5 year anniversary trip to either Tahiti or Fiji. My mom is from Thailand and will be going there in the next few years with her to visit family. My husband has always wanted to go to Spain so that would be on the list too if money was not an option.
I would absolutely love to go to the 4 Seasons Resort in Costa Rica! A dream trip would be two weeks there! So naturally gorgeous. He also loves St. Lucia and climbed both Pitons on his last trip there. Ironically, he went ALONE to St. Lucia a year before we met! He always jokes and says he was the only guy there alone on the entire island as everybody was either on their honeymoon or engagimoon! One of the two will get us just fine. We also want to take the kids for a family trip this summer to Orlando after we tie the knot!
We're headed off in ONE MONTH (woo hoo!) for our engagi-moon. We're doing a quick getaway to Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton for 4 days and getting the romance suite! It has a private entrance and two terraces and you can walk out from your patio to the beach! It's kinda up on a peninsula sort of with ocean on 2 sides. In adults only villa section. Great price for what you get!
For an anniversary trip next year I'd love for us to go to Puerto Rico. I was born there (Air Force bratt!) and love that island so much. It would be awesome to rent a jeep and just travel the whole island. El Yunque Rainforest is so beautiful! Even has the worlds' smallest orchid growing there! You can climb the waterfall there too (did it!).
I would love to take my guy on a tour around Italy for 2 weeks; I've been twice but he's never even been out of the country, and I'd have a great time showing him all the quirky shops and restaurants that I found.
However, since our budget is so small, it's looking like it will be a long weekend in Las Vegas...hopefully we can take a longer, more exciting trip in a few years.
If money were not object, Mr. Chocolate Chip and I would have 2 VERY different honeymoons! He would want to spend a week going to his Fave teams basketball/football/baseball games and I would want to do the Europe thing, maybe those month long cruises...
I'd do the same as you, Bee...hands down Bora Bora or Figi, somewhere around there. A girl can only dream!
Our dream destination was either Moorea, Thailand, or Malaysia. Moorea is so beautiful and serene, but we are obsessssssed with Thai and Malaysian cuisine. The idea of wandering around Penang eating just sounded too awesome. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to take enough time off to justify such a long, costly flight.
I can't complain about our actual destination- we're spending 7 days in Paris! We've both been, so we can just do seven days of revisiting our favorite places.
A ride on The Orient Express! Its ridiculously expensive though.
Fiji! or anywhere else in the South Pacific..
Excitingly, we got to go to Fiji! We originally booked at a 3.5 star resort through a travel agent...2 months before the wedding our agent told us it was closing but they had rebooked us at no additional cost at Royal Davui, a 5 star resort in Fiji! That alone made it worth using the travel agent!!
I would LOVE to go lie on a tropical beach for a couple of weeks. I don't see that happening necessarily, since the man isn't too into heat and sweat and tons of sunshine. But, whatever we do will be fun and awesome, I'm sure!
Bali, Indonesia... my family are all over there so it would be awesome to hang out with fam in the villas, play on the beach, and eat awesome food.
My second choice would be to backpack through Europe for 1-2 months.
Hands down Bora Bora for the honeymoon!
We actually wanted to have our wedding there but it was too expensive for the guests to go. Since we had a destination wedding in Cancun, we stayed a few extra days which counted as the honeymoon. I still hope we'll get a chance to go to Bora Bora. Although I don't know when...
Lake Como for sure! Either that or I'd like to take a 7 day Medditeranean cruise and then spend an additional 7 days in Greece.
For somewhere really relaxing Fiji or Bora Bora. But, if we were in the mood for sightseeing, a trip throughout Europe for like 2 months...hey, money is no object, right?
Hoping to go to either Moorea or somewhere in Hawaii. We're getting married in Mexico so we're already somewhat close to both locations.
When we started talking about honeymoons we anticipated a very different economic situation than the one will have, but we were looking at a 14 night Medditeranean cruise that featured cities of religious significance followed by three days of sunning on a beach in Greece. We have both been to Europe before, but this would be a totally different experience because the trip included stops in Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece, and Italy.
If money were no object, I would do Disney for a week to have some fun together, then a week on a beach- no particular one.
Going to Italy was our dream honeymoon! The Mr. isn't much of a beach person either, and we like vacations where we can go out and do things. :) It was still relaxing though, because we spent more time in each city than we needed, so we could explore at a leisurely pace. I did really want to go to the Amalfi Coast, but we didn't have the time or the money to do it... that's probably the only thing I would have changed if I had all the resources in the world! :)
Paris :) I can't wait to go, I may be more excited (only a tad bit) for our honeymoon than our wedding.
Well, I feel a bit lucky since when we visited FH's family over Christmas to share the news of our engagement - we also had a pre-marriage honeymoon type thing. He's from Peru so we went up to Cusco and Machu Picchu and it was so amazing. We won't be able to afford to take a trip like that again for a while now, so it was definitely a dream honeymoon!
If I haaaad to pick another destination, haha... it would be so great to visit somewhere neither of us had been and we could travel to see new places - maybe somewhere like Turkey or Spain or Greece...

Mr. Bee and I went to Spain for our honeymoon because I'd never been to Europe, and Mr. Bee isn't really into the beach (I'm from California so I'm a total beach girl). We had an amazing time, but just did waaaaaay too much. In retrospect, I understand why people want to just lay on a beach and do nothing after their weddings.
If we were to do it again, I'd definitely do the beach thing -- Bora Bora, Maldives or Fiji.
If money were no object, where would your dream honeymoon destination be?
