Just a fun thought stirred up by my crazy head as a spin off the "What do you do for a living?" thread, what would be your ideal dream job?
I would want to be a photographer for a fashion magazine. Or a kindergarden teacher. Or a wedding planner. :) Any would do.
Do you have your dream job already?
My absolute dream job? Heiress :P
But as in real jobs? I would love to have my own salon, and I'm starting the steps towards that this fall when I start hairstyling school, then doing a cosmetology course.
Oooh... Or be a professional cake baker. I'm pretty skilled in that already (not to toot my own horn or anything) but there's no real demand for any more cake bakers around here. Stupid small towns.
Or ya know, a supermodel. If I was tall and thin enough.
I'd love to be an actress, florist or cake decorator. I am a teacher. I used to think it was a dream job, but now after several years I think I've become jaded.
Hah. To be a SAHW/mom. I hate working :( maybe it's because it's been a looooong day...
I know it sounds silly but my absolute DREAM JOB would be a lounge singer.
You know, like you see in the movies sometimes? The bombshell girl with the amazing voice gripping the microphone with a sultry intensity across a smoky, dimly lit room with people lounging around with expensive cocktails in gorgeous dresses?
Yea, that, lol.
Professional Organizer :)
Or bar/bakery owner with my sweetie!
Instead, I'll keep working in wedding sales and planning I suppose!
I've been a pastry chef. The hours were insane, and I was in Miami at the time and the competition is ridiculous!!!
travel journalist would be my #1 choice. or a model or actress as a close 2nd.
My dream job would be to own a doggie day care. I need to be my own boss but still do something that actually requires me to go to an "office". Plus I adore animals.
@thewheelsonthebus: Ohhh Professional Organizer?! How do you get into that? I practically do that already!
Being a financial planner. Not sure if I ever really will though.
@napabridekelsey: There's actually a certification and association I'm pretty sure.
For now, I'll just stick to having people pay me to take care of their offices and closets and whatever else on occasion :)
I would LOVEEEE to do that full time!
@thewheelsonthebus: seriously! I'll have to look into it :)
@helenberrycrunch: It's funny...we work in similiarish fields. And I really love what I do too. :-) I'd say I'm doing what I want to do right now.
Ok, IDEALLY, I would just be a SAHW with a rich husband... but you said job....
@helenberrycrunch: amen...
@judithsr: I work with the vets, you work with the teens. We got this. lol
I would be a health inspector or editor, lol.
@Gingersnap: Heiress, I love it! That is what I would really want to be.
Stay At Home Wife is so a job and it's definitely my dream:) My day would go something like this: New York Times on the iPad, breakfast, hour and a half of yoga, tidy up, email, work on my book (so far I have the most awesome title. That's the extent:) then grocery shop and cook something super fab that takes like two hours to prepare. Eat with my husband and then go watch everything I TiVod during the day, read and repeat the next day. And the next. Would never get sick of that job. Lol
I was able to be a stay at home mom for a while when my daughter was first born and I would LOVE to be a a Homemaker again!
but I would also like to start up a buisness That specializes in parties specifically for kids I would like to plan design decorate, host the party and do activities (providing things like mini mani's and pedi's fun hair temp tattoos, makeup, face painting, etc )(more entertainment type things than Professional services) things like that that would relate to the party theme. I think I really have a knack for it and love to do it ( i love to craft and plan parties and decorate for parties and seasonally) but my husband just doesnt think there would be a market for that sort of thing in our area.
If I was to stay in my current profession Cosmetologist... I would love to find a salon that caters only to men (not a barber shop they wont hire me I already tried bc my license is different) I really dont much enjoy doing hair anymore and I hate doing womens hair... I could make twice as much if i did only mens hair.... I can shampoo cut and style a mans hair in less than 20 mins... For the same service on a woman it takes me 30 to 45 mins thats including only a blow dry style if we get it into flat ironing and curls and all that your talking more 45-60 mins (most women anyways with medium to long hair) Not to mention that statistically men are better tippers... so I could do more people and make more tips
Given the education hell i went through I think my current job as a prosector is pretty perfect but could pay better.... If I was smarter and avoided law school baker would have been my dream but now I can't imagine not using my law license.
To be an English teacher that has the ability to reach my students in wonderful ways. I want them to be able to appreciate English as much as I do, to crave reading books, and to learn that the word is mightier than the sword.
I also really want to be a published author and touch people with my words.
Supreme Court Justice. Sadly, I think that ship has sailed.
#2: Tenured professor of history.* Working toward that now. We'll see....
*In a university and city that I love. Otherwise it's not quite as awesome.
I would be a special effects makeup artist for the movies, doing all the makeup effects and gore and stuff. Heck yes.
That... or an international super spy. James Bond, eat your heart out.
I actually have my dream job - after years of planning weddings for clients through a hotel, I started my own event planning business! It has been so fantastic!
Eventually my dream is to open a storefront, with a conference area for meetings with brides, and for brides to meet with their other vendors. It will obviously be very modern and chic. ;-)
I wanna be a mom for a job lol. Homeschool them, have lots of animals, a semi-selfsustanible farm, craft, just have fun with a large family.
I am living it right now! I am a kindergarten teacher and couldn't be happier. A few years ago my dream was to coordinate weddings...did that and now I am onto my next dream. Maybe next I would like to teach pilates, own a dance company, or sell jewelry. Who knows! Right now I am loving my job with my kiddos. Today was our last day and one of my students said, "Miss C. thank you for making our kindergarten year the best year ever!" Happy kids = happy teacher!
Some sort of sinecure position where I don't have to sit at home all day but have an actual job where I don't have to do much and get paid assloads of money for it. Either that or I'd love to direct awful B-horror movies, like Troma movies and early Peter Jackson type of stuff.
My dream job would be making millions of dollars to travel to impoverished areas to do low-cost/free spay/neuters and vaccines for people's pets and being able to teleport back to home whenever I wanted to spend time with my husband between my in-the-field shifts. A girl can dream :)
More realistically, I will hopefully eventually end up owning my own event planning business, but that's going to take a while.
And yes, I realize that I have career multiple personality disorder.
@satsumaflower: Can I ask why health inspector? I'm working as one now, and it's definitely a cool job, but I've never heard anyone describe it as a dream job :)
My dream job would be either a pathologist, veterinarian, ninja, or lottery winner
@ThunderBunny: Haha, ninja! I didn't know that was an option.
I actually love what I do (teaching math and science), but I wish I didn't get bogged down with so much paperwork.
I just thought of something else. I'd LOVE to be a professional rock climber.
Food critic (one who goes everywhere around the world; I basically want Anthony Bourdain's job)
Broadway star (alas, I cannot sing or dance or act. I pity any future child of mine with talent in this arena)
I had two - and I picked one, I am a chef which I love, but I would also love to be an archaeologist, sometimes I think of going back to school for it
I am a teacher .... sorta...im looking for a job in the Chicagoland and it is rough however my dream job would be a stay at home mom! I am so glad other people said that too because sometimes people look at me like i am crazy when i say that. However, after my kids are grown id like to go back to school and become a women's studies professor. However, if we are talking super duper dream - i would travel the world with my hubby and our babies while writing for lonelyplanet and meditating for hours. yay.
Wow. funny you should post this thread, I was thinking about this question recently.
The conclusion I've come to is that I never really had a "dream" job in mind. I mean, as a kid, I went through the basic jobs that SEEMED like dream jobs or the professions I SHOULD be, but in reality, none of those interested me. When I was in third grade I wanted to be an artist (kids! lol), in highmschool I know I went back and fourth between a lawyer (boring!!) and a hotel CEO (because that's what my dad was, so I looked up to him). But in all honesty, none of those really interested me, they were just jobs I thought I should have because they were "respectable" or made a lot of money.
I kind of fell into my job now and I've been there 7 years. I can say with all honesty that I absolutely love my job. I get excited to go every day and I miss it when I'm gone. Co-workers joke that I can't even stay away on my off days, and they're right. I like everything about it, and I as of now I can't see myself quitting for anything. I've even pondered if I would quit my job if I won the lottery and I don't think I would. I'd miss it too much. Don't think I don't have my bad days, but I believe you'll find those at any job.
I've often thought that if I didn't just so happen to fall into the job I'm in now and money/time/education weren't an issue, what jobs would I like to do? The one thing that I honestly keep going back to (and don't laugh please) is a paparazzi. Lol, yeah....I know.... but you would have to understand my upbringing to understand that. So yeah, I guess that's my "dream job."
Others I've pondered, but wouldn't seriously consider or pursue:
Samantha brown's job, Flight attendant, A&R for a record company (the people who find new talent), or a casino hostess (they greet high rollers and tend to their needs).
