I am listening to Christmas music (That time of year already!?) and am dancing to some Gene Autry "Here Comes Santa Clause", and before that was "Feliz Navidad".. Can't get enough of it! What is your favorite Christmas song? Favorite tradition?

Edit: I wanted to add also: What is your favorite Christmas movie? Our is Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation. Watch it every year! :)

Ooh!  I can't believe the holidays are here either, but I'm so excited!  My favorite Christmas songs are Silver Bells, The Christmas Song, and the Carol of the Bells.  I can't ever get enough of them!

Mr. Adventure and I actually have two traditions.  On Christmas Eve we go over to FSIL's house around 6 or so where we gorge ourselves on hors d'oeuvres.  No joke.  His family just makes tons and tons and TONS of hors d'oeuvres and that's dinner that night.  We exchange gifts, and chat and play with the kids...all eight of them! Then, after the kids are put to bed all the adults stay up and play board games until midnight or so, snacking all the while.

Then, on Christmas Day, Mr. Adventure and I open presents in the morning and I usually whip up some kind of rich breakfast.  We stay in our pjs all day, I usually watch A Christmas Story at least once, and I make home-made pot pie.  And I'm talking seriously home-made...I make my own crust, my own stock, all of it.  The evening usually closes with some sweet love down by the fire (well...the Christmas tree really!), and its wonderful.  The best Christmases I've ever had are the ones I share with Mr. Adventure.  :)

Oh yikes!  I'm not ready for Christmas yet, still focusing on Thanksgiving 'cause FI and I are HOSTING it this year--a group of 20 and my first ever family event :-)

My favorite Christmas carol is Good King Wenceslas, though, and my favorite tradition is going to the local bell ringing concert at the chapel near the Grist Mill.  Can you say "New England"?  Plus I rang bells for 4 years and I don't get to enjoy them much anymore now that I'm out of school; I would love to ring for a choir but there just aren't many around, and they're all full :-/

@MissAdventure: Your traditions sound so great! You will have to share your homemade pot pie recipe! :) One of my favorite dishes.

We are getting our tree the Friday after Thanksgiving. It has been me and FI's tradition for the last 5 years. We get some hot chocolate, search for our tree at the farm with our doggie, then go home and decorate while listening to Christmas music. I love the holidays :)

@MsJ26:I'm putting together my pot pie recipe with pictures, so I'll be sure to post it once I do!  Its an all day process, but SO good!

Your tradition sounds awesome!  I've always wanted to cut down my own tree!  We usually just go to Home Depot that Friday.  Not as Christmasy, but I live in a very urban part of San Diego so its close enough.  ;)

We do wait until its dark out though, so at least it'll be cold!  lol!

@MissAdventure: I can't wait for the post! That sounds so good to have cooking while decorating the tree! yum! We had to go to Home Depot one year for our tree and it was still fun! I was just as picky even though the trees were wrapped ;) You could still grab some hot chocolate and wear some fuzzy woolies to get the full effect!

Fave song is The Little Drummer Boy. But I love all Christmas songs!!

Love the Griswald's the best, too. Also, love THe Christmas Story!

Love cutting down a Christmas tree every year. Don't love all the pine needles on my floor after a few weeks, though. :)

@Jenn23:Yeah...the pine needles...not so much.  And every year, one of the damn cats pees behind the Christmas tree!  It only happens once, and I've never caught the culprit, but when I do....oooh!  So, Christmas = carpet cleaning in the Adventure household.

I love "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby (movie was great too), and my favorite Christmas movie is Holiday Inn.  Every Christmas Eve, late at night and alone, I wrap last minute gifts and get the stockings ready while I watch Holiday Inn.  I have done this for 20 years.

I love Christmas.  My house is very Christmasy (already have my boxes out).  I have to do the tree on my own (well since the boys are too big to care now) and the tree has to match top to bottom.  I even buy wrapping paper to match my tree (overboard I know).  I have six different sets of ornaments so it is different every year.

    *Sigh*  I just love Christmas.

    "You surprised, Clark?"

"Eddie, if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more suprised than I am right now"

    LOL  Best movie ever!

One of our family kitties (Andy) climbed half way up my Mom's tree last year. Wonder what he'll do this year. Oh boy...

Favorite Christmas songs are:  "2000 Miles" by The Pretenders (I actually prefer the coldplay version though it's not released), "Christmas Wrapping" by The Waitresses, and "Merry Christmas, Baby", specifically Hanson's version.

Favorite tradition:  FI and I have yet to really make any set traditions for ourselves, but there are 2 that my family does that I love.  On Christmas Eve, we read The Christmas Story and place the star on the tree, then my mom gives us all new PJ's.  On Christmas morning, my Dad cooks the most AWESOME breakfast of pain perdue (french toast) while listening to either "An Austin Rhythm and Blues Christmas" or Aaron Neville's Christmas album.

Favorite Christmas movie:  Elf or The Family Stone

So excited for Christmas this year, it's already quite cold, so it's looking like it will be a white Christmas here (but we will be travelling to NC for Christmas this year...our first time having to travel!)

I LOVE Christmas music!  I have two Pandora stations of just Christmas music - one is classic Christmas and the other is more like Mariah Carey style Christmas (who doesn't love a little "All I Want for Christmas is You?").  I really don't think I could pick a favorite!

We visit our families for Christmas.  Last year we did Christmas eve and morning with my family and Christmas dinner with my husband's family (our parents live about an hour and a half away from each other).  This will be my first year at my in-law's house for Christmas eve / morning, and I'm really sad about it!  I love my in-laws, but I am very sentimental and I cherish the time I spend with my family.  Also, my family does most of the celebrating on Christmas eve and morning.

Once we have children, I do not think we will continue to travel on Christmas day.  We will probably form our own traditions down the line.

Is this anyone else's first Christmas away from their family?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is my all time FAVORITE Christmas carol. I also LOVE the movie it was written for, Meet Me in St Louis. It make me cry everytime I watch it, without fail.

My other favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story. It's a big thing in my family. You can count on someone saying, "You'll shoot your eye out," at every Christmas dinner.

I love classic Christmas songs like O Holy Night, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and anything sung by big choirs.  I just love Christmas and I'm so exctied for the season!

One of the newer traditions we have is doing a traditional Italian seafood Christmas with DH's Dad & Stepmom on Christmas Eve, then "American" Christmas late lunch with his Mom, and then we do a German-American dinner with my parents.  That changes this year though since we've moved.  We're going to spend the holiday in NC with my parents and family at my grandparents' house.

@MissAdventure: I know what you mean about pretending the chilly dark is like a white Christmas!  We finally feel like the holiday season is coming with the time change because it's 80+ everyday still.

@Jenn23:LOL! "The little lights aren't twinkling Clark!"

    I love cousin Eddie:

"Now that there, is an R...V.." and "Oh, I will take the neck Clark, that's the best part" hehe

And my all time favorite of Clark Griswold is:

"And when Santa squeazes his fat wide ass down the chimney tonight, he will see the jolliest bunch of assholes on this side of the nut house" LOL

@MsJ26: And after he says "that there is an R.V, Clark", isn't that when he says, "Don't get any ideas, Clark. We're taking it with us when we leave next month". And that's when Clark spits out the eggnog. LOL

I love when Clark goes nuts at the end! My husband will sometimes say, "Holy Shit, where's the tylenol?" in the way Clark said it at the end of his crazy episode. I crack up everytime.

"Tis the season to be merry"

    "Well, that's my name"

    "No shit"

    LOL

I actually really dislike Christmas music, so it's a no-go for me there.

Every year me and my mother spend a weekend baking a ridiculous amount of cookies of all different kinds. We'vce been doing it since I was a toddler. She used to sit me up on the table with a cookie sheet and a bowl of cookie dough and let me roll the balls for the chocolate chip cookies.

My siblings and I watch A Christmas Story every single year. My parents hate it, but its definitely our tradition.

"You can't see the panty line can you Rust....Rust?!"

Neighbors - "Where you think your gonna put that tree?" Clark - "Bend over and I'll show ya"..."No I wasn't talking about you..."

Right now my favorite christmas song is "Christmas-Baby Please Come Home", the Death Cab for Cutie version. I also love the song "December" by Weezer. I don't think it's actually a Christmas song, but I love it and it has a Christmasy feel to me...lol

My favorite Christmas movies were always the ones they showed on the family channel when it was Fox Family...I loved The Christmas List with Mimi Rogers. Oh and I loved the Christmas movie with the Olson twins...

I also really love watching Love Actually and About a Boy around the holiday season...I guess because that's when they take place.

I love the whole Boney M Christmas Album. I play it while I wrap Christmas gifts and I'm in my own little piece of heaven.

My favorite Christmas tradition is going to get the Christmas tree. We don't go out into the bush anymore, but we do go to a tree fram. They take you around the tree farm on a horse drawn wagon, you cut down your own tree. There is a bonfire and hot chocolate and the kids love it (so does their mom).

Hanson's Christmas album has been a yearly tradition for me since it was released. Also: "White Christmas" (Bing Crosby), "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas," Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo."

I also leave one t.v. in the house playing A Christmas Story for all 24 hours of the TBS broadcast but will find another t.v. to watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas at least once. Drives the family nuts.

DH and I don't have any traditions of our own yet, I'm sad to say. This is our second Christmas together though, and I'm going to decorate the apartment, make cookies, and we're getting a tree.
