So bees, what's your favorite diamond shape (particularly for engagement rings)? And why if you don't mind me asking 
Round, followed VERY closely by oval. I think they are both very timeless and classic. They also have a lot of facets so you get a lot of sparkle and that is always a good thing.
I love my oval. Classic, but not everyone has it. I also LOVE rectangular radiants!
I like round cut because it gives off the most light! (i.e. SPARKLES!) :)
Hmm hard to choose! I'll have to say my number 1 is round, because that's what my little baby is. My second fave is definitely pear shaped! So beautiful.
I like rounds by default lol. I am super indecisive and kept changing my mind about which shape I liked best. I was worried certain shapes might date my ring or I would feel like my ring didn't fit my personality in the future (over-analyze much? lol). So I actually now love the shape that I originally vowed I would not get because I think it's the most timeless shape.
@Gingersnap: Pear was my favorite for awhile...especially pears with halos. So pretty and vintage looking.
someone enlighten me, what is the difference between a round and a princess cut? I R diamond ignorant :P
I voted cushion, followed verrry closely by princess. And of course round is a timeless classic.
I'm a total weirdo! I LOVE emerald cut diamonds but ended up falling in love with a ring that had a round center stone--who knows?! :-)
I voted ascher as my top fave, but my e ring is a princess cut and I love it!
It's a close race between round and cushion for me. But I voted round, it just the classic diamond shape to me.
I voted cushion. I love the look of the elongated cushion, followed by oval.
In general, I like round. I think it depends a lot on the setting, though. I prefer round or princess on a plain solitaire setting. I like heart-shaped diamonds on more artistic bands. If we're talking halo settings, I think pear-shaped stones are just lovels.

that is funny because someone was going on about their 'princess' cut diamond not too long ago and it was in fact round, so I was a tad confused.
OP: I like classic round cuts.

I have always loved emerald cuts. They are unique, can look vintage but still look quite modern in a setting.
Oval - they are just a bit different and I find them elegant. I think oval is just more "me".
Oval! It can really accentuate and play off of a tapered band, which is my favorite type of band. It's also "classic with a twist" because it's similar to the round but not quite...and that's pretty much my style in all elements of my life.
@rachaelrobin: If I was ever lucky enough to own a pink or canary diamond I'd want a radiant cut all the way.
My heart belongs to the cushion cut. Radiant, Asscher & Round aren't far behind though...
i chose heart because i love anything heart shaped. i have heart shaped tattoo and as soon as i saw a heart shaped diamond, i knew that was what i wanted. i have lots of inner cheese in me i guess :)

@mg1363:I love the princess cut diamond but I'm scared it may become dated in the future. I also think the round is elegant.
Emerald...but I LOVE radiant, asscher and cushions as well.
My heart has always belonged to princess cut diamonds. I always imagined my e-ring would be princess cut... and it is!
Emerald, because of its understated elegance- it is not flashy, but rather very classy and hides no flaws.
