I have a love-hate relationship with mascara. I love the way it looks when I first put it on. I hate the way it looks a few hours later when it is flaking and smudging below my eyes. The raccoon look is not good for me. My current mascara (l’oreal voluminous) has made me look bad for the final time, and I am looking for a good replacement. I don’t feel like buying the expensive stuff since it has to be thrown away every 3 months for sanitary purposes. And I like something focused on volume. My length and curl are pretty good on their own.
Suggestions of what to buy that won’t flake or be smudgy?

I’ve always loved Maybelline for mascara, my favorite is full and soft. But great lash is also a good one.

@lovekiss: I know you said you need more volume than anything, but I’m a blonde with long eyelashes that are invisible without mascara and I use L’Oreal’s Telescopic Shocking Extensions in waterproof. It’s been my favorite for probably 6 months or so? That’s a while for me to stick with mascara because, like you, most flake off or give me raccoon eyes. I hate that! I really think the waterproof part of it all has really helped the flaking.

I like the waterproof Cover Girl Lash Blast mascaras.

I am someone who previously thought that there was very little difference between cheap mascara and expensive mascara. It’s all goo of various shades of black and brown. The difference in my preferences was primarily due to differences in the brush applicators, not the formula itself.
That’s until I found Benefit They’re Real mascara. It’s amazing, and you’ll use it all and not need to discard any within three months.
You can get a mini bottle for $10, and if you don’t care for it then you’re not out so much.
Note: it will give you a more natural lash look, compared to other kinds that will mimic the falsie look. You can layer it to get great length and volume, but it’s still not a mascara that goes on quick and heavy. Just food for thought.

@lovekiss: Covergirl great lash in the orange tube in blackest black. Every time I switch away from it I regret it and I switch back.

@lovekiss: I’ve done a couple of professional shoots and they used Maybellilne Colossal Volume mascara in the big yellow tube.
I was surprised because the makeup artists had Chanel and Dior makeup but they said that that was the best stuff around.
Works for me!

I feel so alone in this, but I absolutely despise great lash mascara.
I like Rimmel sexy curves. Mabeline stiletto lashes is pretty good too, but the waterproof one sucks.
