I usually bring a bottle of wine from one of the local vineyards in our area.

After we bought our house, our favorite gifts were gift cards to Home Depot and Lowe’s.  For the first few weeks, we were at Home Depot or Lowe’s on a daily basis, so we put them to good use.  Also one of my favorite items, our Dustbuster vacuum, was bought with one of the gift cards.  But gift cards aren’t the most personal thing to give, useful as they are.  Wine and good food always make good gifts for homeowners. We didn’t get any wine, but we did get a good bottle of scotch from someone because my FI is more of a scotch drinker.

We bought FI’s friend three new doorknobs (with one key for all) for his exterior doors as a housewarming gift.
It’s a bit unusual but we knew he wouldn’t even think of doing that. It’s a bachelor house, so maybe that was our first clue, haha.

Our favorit gift to give couples is movie tickets. We usually go to Costco and pick up a combo pack with two movie tickets and a popcorn and soda giftcard in the box, for about $20? I think a date night is always a good gift.

I would go with the wine. We got a number of candles, fragrance diffusers etc which DH and I are both allergic too and have no use for. I would say go with something you know they like.

My favorite housewarming gift would be my HUGE clock that I have hanging over my couch.  It’s about 2 feet tall and looks like a stop watch.  But we also moved right after my birthday so it was a house warming/ birthday gift.

How about a nice welcome mat for outside one of the doors? Its something that is pretty easy to pick out for someone despite their tastes and can generally always be used.

@MrsD41503:  Man, I have to be so cliche and say wine. I’m a wine drinker but even still I just love the gesture and what it says. Somehow to me wine just says, hey welcome to your new home, kick back :] Worse case scenario, you cook with it or save for a special occasion/hard day. I would also love a gift card or welcome mat as mentioned above!

Wine or liquor.  🙂  My aunt got us a beautiful piece of Polish pottery from Germany (I think it’s a loaf pan) that I absolutely adore.

Maybe a coffee table book, or a nice bouquet in a nice vase.
