We're planning to have a cookie bar at our wedding and I'm trying to figure out what types of cookies we should make. Here's a few ideas I have so far - nothing set in stone:

    1. Chocolate Chip
    2. Peanut Butter
    3. Rice Crispie Treats
    4. Snickerdoodle
    5. Shortbread
    6. Sugar
    7. Chocolate with Andes Chips

    What's your favorite cookie? :)

If the cookies are soft I like

    Chocolate Chip

Peanut Butter (with peanut butter chips in them)

I also LOVE black and white cookies (but those are more like cake)

Can't go wrong with chocolate chip!

I also REALLY enjoy those white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.  I'm not even a big white chocolate fan.

I love those almond butter thins, and soft snickerdoodles, ooh and frosted sugar cookies!

I love them all.  I think you can't go wrong!!!

White chocolate chip. I've never tried a peanut butter cookie, would love to try one, it will probably take a few years for England to catch on to that one haha

I love them all! We make one called a "monster cookie" that has peanut butter, choc chips, and oatmeal.

To that end, maybe an oatmeal raisin to round out the offerings?

    @Amaryllis: That's a good idea - I definitely want there to be a variety!

Thanks everyone! And definitely let me know if your favorite cookie isn't something I have up there! That's just a rough idea list!

I like oatmeal chocolate chip, although when I've made them at home they're never as good as when I get them at Potbelly.

My all time favorite cookie is white chocolate macadamia nut, but it wasn't on your list.  I'd pick chocolate chip as my second.

My favorite wedding cookie is actually a mexican cookie.  It's called pan de polvo...it's basically a cinnamon/sugar cookie that melts in your mouth!  Ooooober delicious!!

Are you doing store-bought or homemade?

Favorites are chocolate chip, almonddoodles (like snickerdoodles but with almond flavoring and rolled just in sugar), white chocolate macadamia, and sugar cookies!

@kitzy: yuuummmm.... those sound like they are to die for.... i want one.

We did a ookie bar for our reception and DH's grandma made 120 DOZEN cookies all by herself!  The woman is pure cookie magic, I tell ya... there were only crumbs left at the end.  We got chinese take out boxes, put a sticker of our initials/date, and a ribbon on them for guests to take a box home with them, plus eat at the reception.

Here's what I remember from what we had...

frosted sugar (like the kind you get at a grocery store bakery with sprinkles and stuff)

    white choc macademia

chocolate with PB chips... recipie is usually on the back of the PB chips

    oatmeal raisin

    lady locks

    cheesecake bars

    toll house marble squares

    cake pops

    biscotti

    caramel/choc covered pretzles

    dream bars

    honey macaroons

peach cookies (these looked like real peaches with leaves and everything... honestly, they looked cooler than they tasted... but they looked COOL!!)

    orange cookies

    pizelles

    ritz PB

    raspberry ribbons... really yummy!

I think there were more, but that's all I can remember!  I know the guests liked the variety and the 'novelty' cookies because they don't see them all the time.  We set ours up the night before and covered the containers with plastic wrap and the cookies were just fine.  I would suggest appointing someone to keep the containers filled and/or switch kinds if you don't have enough containers to have 1 for each kind.  My brother's GF did this for us and it was SO helpful!!

ETA:  I should also mention that DH's grandma planned for each guest to eat/take home a dozen cookies.  We factored in some guests that won't eat them and came up with 120 dozen and we had 150 guests.  We could have honestly probably gone through more... DH and I never even got any!

I am a snickerdoodle girl. Given a selection I will pick it every time. I also love molasses cookies, something my Gram use to make all the time. The key to a good cookie is real butter and real vanilla.  I think I need to go bake some cookies now. LOL>

    Dont forget your fruit! :)

    Some suggestions not yet mentioned:

Lemon bars, though not technically a cookie.

Raspberry or strawberry jam-filled. Maybe something coconut.

My stand by favorite is Chocolate Chip...but when I'm feeling ambitious, I make dark chocolate with dark chocolate chip cookies...They are to DIE for, but they can't be made in advance as they are better same day.

    8 oz. dark chocolate chopped
    1/4 c. unsalted butter
    1 egg
    1 t. vanilla
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    pinch of salt
1 t. instant espresso powder (instant coffee works too)
    1/4 c. dark cocoa powder
    1/4 t. baking powder
    1/2 c. all purpose flour

Melt 1/2 chocolate and butter in dutch oven, then cool completely. Mix egg, sugars and vanilla in separate large bowl. Combine mixtures. Mix dry ingrediant in a bowl, then add to chocolate mixture. Fold in remaining chocolate and bake at 325 F until they begin to crack. Enjoy!
