My two favorite places on earth are Asheville, NC and Charleston, SC.  We will be retiring to one of those two places.  ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite place on earth is Amsterdam.  I studied abroad there in college and I feel like I left my heart there.  I would loooove to retire there.

More locally there is a botanical garden in Los Angeles called Huntington Library.  I could get lost there for hours.

My hometown in Nebraska.  I live in Iowa now and I get so excited when I get to go back to Nebraska and visit family and old friends.  I cry when we drive back to Iowa and the minute we cross the Nebraska/Iowa border bridge and get this sinking feeling in my heart.

My 2nd favorite place to visit is Chicago.  My aunt and uncle used to live there and I had so much fun visiting.  Tons to do.  My favorite things were going to a Bulls game, walking the Magnificent Mile (window shopping!!!) and going up the Sears tower, I also loved the Navy Pier and ice skating.

@RockStar33:  Oh you have to go, its soo much fun.  Just tons to see and so much history even for a big city.  We always walk by the old water tower when we go too.  I wish my aunt and uncle would still live there but that’s life.  I am trying to get my FI to go (just the two of us and leave the kids at home).  Hoping I can convince him maybe this summer or early fall.

The little garden shop in Los Olivos, CA and Nojoqui Falls (where my husband proposed, see photo below) just a few miles down the road.

Also, the hiking trails behind our house. We live on a hill and there’s hundreds of acres of open land just 300 yards from our front door. It’s wonderful.

This little hidden cove in Pismo Beach (one of our kids snapped this pic 2 years ago when we vacationed there):

Honorable Mention:

Red Rock – near Denver, CO

Ballard Locks and Botanical Gardens – near Seattle, WA

Big Bear Lake, CA – we go in the winter and take our dogs hiking in the snow

NYC.  Something about the energy of the city makes me feel peaceful and at home.  We moved from there 6 months ago, and I miss it.

Otherwise, anywhere with a beach and clear water does it for me =)

@RockStar33:  Joshua Tree is so amazing! I can’t get enough of it… We are going to try our hardest to be bi-coastal after our MN stint just to have access to the desert!
