Mr. DDW needs some help. Let's just say (since wife is reading over shoulder) that he's already bought her a present/made plans for the day. However, for practicality and for other various unsaid reasons, I'd like to get your input. So, vote away!
Hi Mr. DDW!! *waves*
Personally, I'm over the flowers and the chocolates and the stuffed animals. Although, giving me flowers randomly would be a really nice surprise.
But to answer your question, it would be great if he made me something special... like cook! I do 95% of the cooking in our house and it would be a nice break for me.
I'd like to go on a little fun/adventurous/romantic getaway! That would be my favorite thing to get for Valentine's Day
I like food, so my #1 choice is fine dining. Give me an excuse to dress up.
#2 would be good chocolates. Since we both like good chocolate w/ tea or wine, it's a gift that both of us can enjoy.
JEWELRY, Mr. DDW.
Just kidding, I don't care about it, but some women might prefer that and it was not one of the choices. Though I see pork chops made it on the list!
I would just like a nice card, maybe some flowers, and a nice dinner. No need to go crazy for V-Day, but a gesture is nice.
I picked pork chops, meaning I'd like a nice dinner. Preferably out, where I don't have to cook or help clean up. He'll get me flowers anyway though, because he always does. I just feel bad that they're so expensive that week!
I do like receiving lingerie. Im not likely to buy it for myself and my husband will give me exactly what he likes so I think its a win win situation. Chocolates are nice but Im trying to be healthy. Flowers are nice too but we have 2 cats so they are always eating them!
My favorite thing is when he takes time to write out a nice card that says all sorts of mushy stuff :). Another favorite is when he actually watches a romantic comedy with me. Since we typically watch stuff that we both enjoy, we don't watch them very often.
From the 'typical' gifts, I love the Russel Stover chocolates and corny stuffed animals :).
I'm going to vote to coming home to a perfectly clean house with dinner cooked and a back rub. Otherwise, I always love me some chocolate.
Oh yeah, like Jo.lee suggested... seeing a romantic comedy would be very nice and with no whining or making fun of it, too! :)
I voted for pork chops because it's always a treat when FI cooks dinner for me for a change.
@yrret107: Haha, thanks for adding that on there! My dad is fifty something, and he still makes loud kissing noises at romantic movies :).
I don't think it's fair to force me to choose between a stuffed fire-breathing dragon or "other", but I went with the latter. For Christmas, the only thing I wanted was for my husband to plan an activity that we'd never done before. It could be sky-diving, taking a wine tasting class, going on some sort of trip, whatever - I just wanted him to come up with an idea, conquer the logistics, and make it happen. So, once the weather cooperates, we're going on a hot-air balloon trip :)
The BEST V Day gift I ever received from my now fiance' was a CD made by him that had songs on it that reminded him of me. This was our first V day together and it was just awesome to listen to the words and know that he actually thought those awesome things about me. It has remained #6 in my disc changer in every car I've had since then and when I am feeling down or have a bad day, I always listen to it.
Good luck with your decision! and welcome BTW!~
Ultimately... I have been eyeing this Tiffany's sterling silver ring.... but because of recent financial events.... I will prob just settle for a back rub :)
My FI is super allergic to dairy so I love it when he brings in a chocolate stash home.
Our second year together, we decided to stop buying each other valentines and christmas gifts, and we put that money in a "travel" fund which we use for fancy meals and hotel upgrades on our vacations. It works very well for us.
These are my top two: 1. Jewelery and 2. Spa gift certificate ......otherwise I would go with chocolate
@yrret107: Oooh! Good idea. I'm no good at cooking, but there are a few dishes that I may be able to whip up for the occasion. DDW usually does the cooking, so I can see how this may be a nice option. I also like the movie idea, mostly because I end up taking over the TV in the evening.
@redherring: Hot air balloon ride?! That would be hard to top. I've been thinking about some sort of skydiving/climbing adventure, but it's a bit chilly out now...
He always gets me thr morst gorgeous flowers. Stargazer lillies that haven't all opened yet. And we usually make dinner for eachother but this year we are going out the day before since he is working all day Monday. Other than that, just a quiet evening in with eachother is what I want... Surprises are always welcome though!!!
Best hubby ever! My vote is some nice lingerie and a little getaway to use it on. ;)
I put other, but I would love to get some chocolates too. I would like a day to actually spend with him. We never get to be together. If the sky was the limit we could go shopping and out to eat and to a movie. I would just love to see him though. He works 9-9 and has full time school, so... yeah.
I immediately thought" jewelry!!"
I feel like some of the typical gifts (flowers, stuffed animals) are a waste, so while I like them, I might rather get something else. A spa gift certificate or a nice evening would also be good.
I saw lingerie and figured a guy wrote this before reading the post teehee. Welcome!
I voted other. FI and I are going to out to lunch and seeing the movie The Rite. It has been a long time since we have enjoyed a date without doing errands or wedding planning so this is exactly what the doctor ordered. I can't wait!!!
Pork chops!....or a nice dinner out, always good times. Sadly, I already know what I'm getting for Valentine's Day. FI told me he needs my work address so he can send me flowers on Valentine's Day. I just started a new job, so he doesn't know the address yet .....silly boys.
Whatever you get your lady...don't tell her what it is!
I, too, voted 'other' 'cause jewelery would be at the top of my list.
Oh, and fire breathing stuffed animal= definitely an lol win :)
I don't do/dig valentine's day. Give me a random Wednesday in April that is made extra meaningful and romantic by a special hand written note or gesture any day over a commercialist consumerist prompt for romanticism. I don't really care that anyone else celebrates the 'holiday' but it annoys me personally that my partner would need the reminder or excuse to do something 'romantic' --to me if it's not spontaneous(in the sense that they didn't get the idea from an outside influence i.e.: valentine's day marketing campaigns), it's not romantic.
If I had to pick something a quiet evening to ourselves, no kid, no responsibilities, no gifts, just us. That would be a pretty darn good gift in and of itself.
I think the best gift would be nothing. I would rather he save the money =)
I asked him for an electric toothbrush, but I'm really hoping for jewelry! There are a couple of rings I've had my eye on that I've pointed out to him...
I picked other and am explaining: NOTHING. :) My sweetie shows me how very special I am everyday and a manufactured day on the calendar isn't important to me. If I had to choose something, I'd love for him to make a donation for Best Friends Ranch in our name...
I wish Sushi dinner was on the list of choices...
And a relaxation massage!
I'd pass up all that other stuff for these :-)
A love letter or a homemade card. Hope I don't put you on the spot, but it truly is what I want more than anything. And I'm not talking about something all long and rhyming poetry and mushy an impossible to write, but seriously it is so nice to hear the things he loves about me and how he feels about our future together. Good luck!!!
@Miichelle: we're getting Sushi on friday with a bunch of friends, so I'd be surprised if he pulls that one out of the hat for V-Day :)
@daydreamwanderer: You have the cutest husband ever.
@Mr. DDW: Can I say all of the above? I'd love to just really be spoiled for a day. DH is thoughtful but I'm not sure he's ever gone all out for me before. Something that shows a lot of forethought and isn't done with an "*sigh* do I have to??" would be amazing ;)
I picked 'flowers' but I rather have just ONE red rose. That's it. And I want him to spend as much of the evening/day with me as possible. We do tend to do these romantic type things regularly so V-day doesn't seem all too extra special other than that one rose which I don't get on other days.
I'd like to start the day with a nice hot-yoga session. Then have a light breakfast. Sit at the cafe and have coffee, read the paper, general chatter.
Go home, watch a movie, take a nap. Get up in the evening, get dressed, go out for dinner and drinks. I don't usually have dessert so I would like to have it on this day. Spend time talking to each other. Come home, watch another movie, relax, have coffee maybe and fall asleep in my honey's arms.
I would LOVE a stuffed animal that breaths fluffy fire! lol
But really, I'm not expecting anything for V-day.
if i usually did the cooking, i would like for fi to do it on v-day. then i'd want some good chocolates and a back rub :)
i wouldn't want fi to buy me lingerie...it's a present for him, not me!
