We spent so much time looking for the perfect song for us to dance to. We had always said Kenny Chesney's Me and You was "our" song, but one day we were talking about it and just felt it wasnnt really us. For almost a month we went back and forth trying to figure out what we felt represented our relationship, then like it was a sign from the music gods......Brad Paisley's "Then" came on pandora while we were cleaning one Sunday and I got chills!! I went into the other room, and before I could spit out, this is the song FI said it! We always say what the other is thinking and that was just a little special memory I have with us picking our song. That got me wondering as to what everyone else is using and how did you decide THAT was your song?!
Ours will be "Til Kingdom Come"by Coldplay. It has been our song since our first year together (7 years ago)
@FutureWife517: we went on our first cruise and we kept going to this bar on the ship called the rythem and blues and the piano kan kept calling us his " power couple" and then played stevie wonder ribbon in the sky for us it just became our song from there on. we are thinking it will be our first dance song
Our song is "Only Exception" by Paramore. One day my hubby and I were in the car and the song came on and he said he had always thought of that as our song, so it stuck. He listens to a lot of symphonic metal and weird music, so it was a huge relief that he had a "normal" song that made him think of us.
"Can't Help Falling In Love" by Ingrid Michaelson. The first time we danced together, we were in the middle of a road (like Noah and Allie in The Notebook), and I sang it quietly while we danced. :)
Ours is Kings of Leon "Use Somebody", not picked for the lyrics, simply picked because that was the song playing when my husband first told me he loved me, so we had that as our First Dance :)
I think we are have decided on Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. We both adore the song and when we were listening to and coming up with songs we wanted played, we both thought this would make an amazing first dance song. It was FI idea and I love the song.
Our song is Invincible by Chantal Kreviazuk. When my FI and I started dating we heard this song over lunch and he told me that when he hears this song at work it makes him think of me. And from then on we considered it our song =D
@FutureWife517: We also went back and forth. For awhile I had a list of six songs that I would change my mind between. We eventually decided on Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. It's how I first said I love you and we figured the lyrics weren't overly corny lovey dovey.
Ours is "Jenny Says" by Cowboy Mouth. If no one knows this song, it's because it only got a little airplay nationally in the mid-90s, but it's their big hit. When FI and I first met in a French Quarter bar and started talking music, I tested his obscure band knowledge by asking if he knew the song, which he did. Immediately. It was an instant bonding moment, it's a fun, fast-paced song, and it will be our first dance. As a surprise we're doing a choreographed swing dance to it. Can't wait. :)
@shadowblind: I remeber that song!
"Our" song is "Never Had Nobody Like You" by M. Ward. It just fits. We both had a looooooooot of others in our heydays!
We might end up dancing to "The Man in Me" by Bob Dylan (or Ray LaMontagne) because that is slightly slower. Neither one of us wants to bother with putting too much effort into our dance. We say that now...
I have a few that I'm considering:
"Here and Now" by Luther Vandross
"Say You Love Me" by DJ Rogers
"Don't Know Much" by Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville
"You Are Everything" (instrumental) by David Sanborn
I always thought it would be "I need you" By Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. When we first started dating, that was the song that represented us. I aways thought it would be "our" dance, untill I heard "God Gave me you" By Blake Shelton. Now that song deffinately represents us.
We really have two- The one we danced to was “Then” (you have great taste) We have been in love with it since it came out. And it was our first song.
Our other song is “ Crazy Girl” by the Eli Young Band- I loved the song for about 5 months and It came on the radio when I was with DH( before we were married) He apparently had been living under a rock and never heard it. He immediately got a huge smile on his face. After that he got called on a fire in a dif state for over 2 weeks (he is a wild land firefighter) when he got home he tad me that every night he would listen to it on repeat.
I usually keep all of my feelings in and then burst lol. We were together for over 3 years, owned a house and had 3 dogs before he proposed. I kind of had a meltdown… apparently he was already planning the proposal and had the ring and he said it took everything in him to not give it to me then.
“Crazy Girl” is prob. the best description of our relationship and us to a “T”.
Ours is "This I Promise You" by N'Sync. I was scared it would be a little cheesy but it's seriously perfect. My fiance and I will have been together for 10 years by the time we get married (high school sweethearts) and I think it's telling of the time we were together since the song was a single back then.
Before I met my FI I thought it that John Legend's "Stay with you" would be my wedding song because I think it completely represents the concept of marriage and John Legend is awesome. We discovered Joshua Radin's "You got what I need" on an episode of Grey's Anatomy together and that was in the running, but it never fully fit us when thinking about our song. One day on Pandora I heard Dave Barnes's "Nothing Fancy" and thought it was so simple and so perfect. I played all three songs for my FI and he also picked out Dave Barnes.
@kjo - God gave me you was actually written and oringally recorded done by Dave Barnes!
Our song is "Hard to Concentrate" by red hot chili peppers.
We alway listened to red hot chili peppers on our way to the beach or just when hanging out together. We really transitioned into adulthood together, learning how to grow up, mature, and take on new responsibilities. This song just reminds us of our time spent together, or life.
Always makes me teary eyed.
Alot can change before then, but as of right now, we chose "A Thousand Years (Part Two)" by Christina Perri and Steve Kazee. My FI first said "this is a good song for our wedding song when that girl group covered it on X Factor. Then while I at the last twilight movie (ducks head in shame that is how I found my song), I heard this new version of the song, and the added lyrics, and it being a duet made it SO PERFECT. The opening lines sold it for me.
@DeeVine1217: I love nsync!! We are having many of their songs played at the reception! I used to be convinced I was going to marry Justin timberlake lol! Strange enough, FI is a musician!! I do think that is an excellent song!! I fully intend on using that song for the bridal party dance! Nsync will be a part of our wedding. LOL
we chose "that's where it's at" by sam cooke. i wanted something that would stand the test of time and i love sam cooke, so i when i came across the song on a wedding blog, i gave it a listen and i love it.
there's a line in the song that goes:
to say it's time to go
and she says, "yes, i know.
but just stay one minute more"
it's totally us. we were long distance our entire relationship until we got married (he's in the military) and everytime it was time for him to go i always said, "just one more minute."
perfect song for us!
Ours is "Better Together" by Jack Johnson. SO is a huge fan and played it for me while we were in the car once and I fell in love... it's so us! And then freakishly, back in June we were on vacation at a cabin resort and there was a wedding taking place across the pond. We sat down on a bench an apporpriate distance back and watched and then they started playing that song... we had a moment, it was sweet :)
Our song is "Rule The World" by Take That. We had just finished watching Stardust and the credits were rolling with this song playing when FI asked me to be his girlfriend.
It was either that or Lionel Richie - All Nite Long which was the first song he asked me to dance (and on our first date too) but we decided that probably wasn't the 'first dance' kind of song! we'll definitely have it played at some point though. :-)
Times Like These, a Special Acoustic version we found by Foo Fighters It just fits us and what we were going through when we found each other.
I was also going to do "Then" by Brad Paisley but we changed our minds and are now doing Joshua Radin "You got what I need." : )
"I'm Your Moon" by Jonathan Coulton. He sent me a mixed CD while we were in a LDR, and it really touched me. The lyrics also have special meaning to us.
Our song was I Love You Just the Way You Are, by Billy Joel. I was married in 1978. My husband is a musician, and he had heard the song. He felt it expressed his feelings, so I agreed on the song.
I hear songs, and never listen to lyrics...but 34 years later I think my husband chose the right song. When the song is played, our children(aged 28,25, 19) know that it is our song.
I work with many bands now, and my other favorite song is Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World. It is a true classic. It is also a great choice for the father/daughter dance.

We had such a hard time choosing a first dance song, since we don't have "A song." It was about 3 am the night before our wedding, and hubs was staying with his cousin. Me and my sister were laying in bed, and I was on youtube listening to our contenders. I chose "I do" by Paul Brandt. We also wanted something country.
"I'm Your Moon" by Jonathan Coulton.
It's a love song to Pluto from Pluto's moon and it fits us perfectly, including the touch of nerdiness about it.
"Let them think what they like, we're fine, I will always be right here next to you"
@HisMoon: OMG YOU TOO? I didn't even see your post when I posted. <3 Song twins.
@Bebealways: WOW. I mean I figured I'd find a dress, shoe, color, etc twin on here, but I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd find a song twin. I love that someone else here gets JoCo!!!
I want ours to be "Still" by Liquideep. He sang it for me just when we started dating and whenever i hear it, it still makes my heart skip a bit. Im not sure if he will agree though so we will see
We are using "Everlong" by the foo fighters. It's always been our song
We were originially going to do "At Last" by Etta James. I've always adored the song and we felt like it was incredibly fitting because we feel like we've waited our whole lives for eachother. But the more I thought about it, I wanted something less standard.
So I had heard before but not thought of, and then came across again, "A Thousand years" by Christina Perry. I was in love. So that will be our first dance song. :)
@PrincessBride2014: I've never heard the part 2 verson! I LOVE the opening words!! I will have to consider it. But I think I like the instrumental better in the original. But perhaps that was just the version I was listening to on youtube? haha I'll have to look into it to be sure..
January Wedding by the Avett Brothers. I first heard about it b/c well that is when we are getting married. And we fell in love with the song. It fits us. And we have been enjoying folk and blue grass music recently.
Hunter Hayes- Wanted. Whenever we see the video we dance in our living room! Just a beautiful song!
