I also live in a small apartment.  We had a traditional shower with household stuff.  I basically just upgraded everything I already had.  Better sheets and towels, better pot and pans, and the dishes and things I had always wanted.  I gave most of my old stuff away to my brother when he moved out on his own.  A lot of the stuff is still in storage at my moms though.

We had the non-existent kind.  I personally hate any type of shower (baby showers, bridal showers, etc) because they’re always pretty boring for me.  We had a big party (we called it a save the date party) instead and said no gifts, but bring a dish to share if you like.

i had a traditional shower.  i registered for gifts and people either bought off the registery or gave gift cards.

if you don’t need or want item, don’t register or register for a few items.  people will get the hint and give money instead.

I had a shower similar to the first poster – we upgraded stuff (pots, pans, towels) as well as registering for that cool barware that we’d never actually buy for ourselves. It was really nice not just getting stuff that you NEED, but to get stuff that you WANT but wouldn’t lay out the money for.

@housebee:  I love this idea. We have had a couple of people mention showers, and it’s not our thing. I really, really like what you did and may borrow the idea!

I didn’t want a traditional shower. My parents had already hosted an engagement party for us, and my relatives had generously given us gifts then. My friends organized a weekend away to local wineries and a wonderful dinner at one of the places. Not everyone could make it (kids, costs, out of town), but it was an amazing time and nobody made me wear a hat of tissue paper!

We are like you: we didn’t NEED anything.  We already were living together and had an established household.  Did we like the idea of upgrades?  Yes… but why replace perfectly useable stuff?

So naturally, we had ZERO showers.

We did have people pushing us for registry and gift information, but we graciously handled inquiries and stayed adamant that the greatest gift was having them attend our wedding and support us as friends.

@badabing88:  Go for it!  We had so much fun at ours, plus it was really low key so nobody was stressed about it.

I had a lingerie shower which was awesome.  I wouldn’t have gone out to purchase all of the amazing lingerie I got.  It was much more fun than stuff for the house.  🙂
