Everyone has a different idea about what vibe they want at their wedding. Some people want chic and classy. Some want a crazy fun dance party! Some want only their closest family and friends by their side.

What kind of feeling do you want your reception to have? What kind of vibe do you want? Or how do you want your guests to feel when they leave?

I want my guests to feel that they had a great time visiting with family, hopefully they come away learning a little bit more about who FI and I are, and I want them to feel like they just left a great summer BBQ!!

I want people to be comforable, but my reception site is much more formal than what my family has had.  Overall, I'm going for a classy dinner, and then a relaxed and fun dance.

I want it to be intimate and FUN!! We're only having around 60 guests, so I think I can acheive the first part at least :)

one of my favorite things to do is go antiquing, and having lunch at those cute little restaurants where they have random things like pitchers filled with flowers and doilies everywhere. so that's what we're doing, we're going to a b&b, centerpieces are antiques filled with flowers, and lots of doilies. i don't know exactly how i want people to feel about it. i guess i want them to mingle, and think that it's a little different than their average wedding.

quirky, whimsical with a slightly formal feel... honestly the only way I know how to describe it is "southern" and "fun"

    Fun!

Want to make sure everyone's well-fed, are dancing, are talking/mingling, and having a blast!  We saved the formality for our Catholic church ceremony....after that, it's gonna be ....ain't no party like a Chicago party coz midwestern parties just rock! =)

Intimate (as in there are only 60 guests so people should get to know each other), FUN, & kid-friendly!!  We're really going for a FUN vibe, so both our ceremonies (Catholic on Fri, outdoor on Sun) are daytime, informal affairs.  The Fri reception is going to be pupus (Hawaiian for small bites or appetizers) & drinks; Sun is going to be a brunch bonanza with an omelette station, waffle station, and sandwich bar, with an end NOT on the dance floor, but in the theme park.  We're encouraging parents to have their kids dress up as their favorite Disney character/princess/fairy on Sunday to keep it fun & kid-friendly.

To help our guests get to know each other, we're posting a "Guests of the week" page on our website, where we post our guests' answers to a questionnaire we sent out to each of them.  Hopefully, this will make them more comfortable & feel like they can talk to each other on our wedding weekend.

This might be superficial, but I want people to come away thinking our reception was so PRETTY. More than that, though, I want there to be a relaxed elegance... not a down-home BBQ but definitely not stuffy at all.

Old world/Victorian ELEGANCE, with a distinctly metropolitan feel (NYC wedding!) and of course, combined with romance.  And then when the music gets started later in the night, I want everyone to feel a little bit playfully transgressive because it's going to be a formal setting and I hope that every kicks off their shoes and GETS DOWN on the dance floor!

Even though I want an elegant, formal ceremony and reception, I don't want anyone to feel like it's stuffy or uncomfortable! I am so excited about working to maintain this balance.

Here here Hazel! Ain't no party like a Mid-West Party!!

@Veganglam, I know the classic but fun balance is hard. I don't think that people always think stuffy when they think formal. Sometimes formal reminds me of fancy and expensive, but there are plenty of formal parties in movies that turn out to be a total riot!

I want it to be like the parties we have after a big climbing competition.  Fun, relaxed, with lots of beer and dancing.

    reception?

A kick ass fun time. Some drinking, people having fun, hugging their friends, just a very happy congratulatory tone. Our reception was pretty casual (chicken, mashed potatoes, open bar, etc) but the food was good, the drinks were cold, and the music was fantastic. It wasn't in a 5 star resort or anything, either. But i didn't want so casual it became sundressy necessarily. It was still a nice place. Can't explain it that great. But it turned out better than i expected. I wanted to be able to laugh and be silly at my own reception without fear of being "improper". I was so over that by the time the ceremony was done with! =]

ceremony--beautiful, romantic and mushy and all that junk.
