I do not like the idea of a traditional guest book, and since I'm the "crafty" one in the family, I think my guests would be disappointed if I didn't do something creative. My problem is, there are so many fun ideas I can't seem to choose one!
Some ideas I'm contemplating are:
We did a photo mat at our wedding. We had a smaller wedding with only about 30 people attending so it was easy to fit everyone there.
i'm designing little postcards. guests can sign the back and write a note or well wishes. afterward i'm going to create a book out of the postcards.
:)
No guest book! That's the one I'm having. I just have no idea what I would do with it after the wedding, and I've never enjoyed signing one myself. I'm sure it will go unmissed.
We had people sign a picture book of the US National Parks with a favorite memory of a National Park or a recommendation for us... It's a beautiful photographic book and I love the words of wisdom everyone gave us!
I'm going with the tree witht he fingerprints. I'm actually not having it at the wedding, I'm having at the big party we are throwing afterward. I am then going to have it framed and hang it in our new home.
how about using engagement pictures or pictures of you guys throughout your relationship to create a book with a lot of white space for people to write?
I've asked my talented sister to paint the trunk of a tree and we're going to do a fingerprint tree.
We're having a photobooth, so I'm having guests sign a page out of a photo album with a 'your photo here' placard. So their photobooth picture will go on the page they sign.
we did a photobook with pictures throughout our relationship.
i love the rock idea!
Haven't decided yet I'm excited to see what others will say! I'm kinda loving the rock idea though ;)
I always hate having to come up with something good to write in guestbooks. So although I love lots of the crafty ideas, I'm just going to go with the traditional sign-in guestbook at the church.
We have a photomat, but it isn't one you sign, it's one you engrave. I hope people don't take up TOO much room, but more importantly, I hope there aren't big blank areas left!
We're doing what hermitcrab suggested. We made the book in blurb, and chose a format with lots of empty room so that people can sign around the pictures. This way, even if people don't have much to say or lots of people don't sign, we'll still have a book of pictures from our relationship!
I might be stretching myself thin on the DIY tip, but I'm going to try this out. I want to have an engravable metal photo mat. Pretty similar to this:

But at $120, I can't afford that, so I will go to Lowe's/Home Depot to see if I can have some metal cut and fitted on to a signature mat to create the same thing. Hoping not to spend more than $50 for the metal and engravable pen.
We are doing a wedding tree :] Just got it in the mail and I LOVE it!!!
We're doing a book full of different photos of the two of us. We've been together for 7 years, so we have a lot of pictures. I think it's going to be great :o)
like monita, I opted to not have one. It'd be something that sits around my house with no purpose and I'd never do anything with it. A photo mat would be cool, but we have too many people for that. Our photog is great though, and I'll get pictures with every table so I'll have the photos of all the guests. And we are going to have a "wishing tree" for people to hang their advice and wishes for us on.
Our photographer is creating a book full of our e-pics with spaces for the guests to write.
Our photog created our Guest Book out of our engagement photos....Here is the layout design of the book, just to give you an idea. The white areas are where people will write, I just have to be sure I get a pen/marker that doesn't smear..That would be a total complete BUMMER!!!!
I'll be doing a photo book. I'd love to do a photobooth but FI has put his foot down on the photobooth.
I do like the idea of the having guests sign the rocks but I would only suggest to use that if you 100% will use them/display them later on. I probably wouldn't want to keep a pile of autographed pebbles after maybe a month or so....but something that can fit in a small book I would definitely keep and look at for years and years.
I am contemplating doing a polaroid camera and having the guests sign a little message under the photo and hanging them from a tree or doing postcards as if they were sending us a postcard. I didnt want to do a traditional guest book because I knew we would never open it, use it, or know where it is.
We are having guests sign a picture story book collection of Disney stories (destination wedding a disney world). That way we can use the book again with our kids and have memories of our wedding day :)
i'm sanding down the finish of an old acoustic guitar that has been stripped of all it's hardwear. it's been passed around between old family friends that used to play it in the 70's to my brother and then myself who learned to play on it. I'm having my guest sign this so later i can just put it on display in our music room.
i bought a box to match our living room decor, some cardstock in really pretty colors(printed what i wanted guests to fill in on them) and silver pens for writing
We're doing a "wedding tree", but it will be with self-adhesive leaves, and not with fingerprints (FI didn't want anyone to have dirty hands).
looking at having a photoquilt made. i'll find link and respost. they put photos of family with bride and groom in center and then you use fabric markers and have guests sign it. apparently you can get them dry cleaned and photos and signatures will stay. 53"X73" with 13 photos for about $200.
Love all the fun ideas! I kinda thought about the quilt idea because my grandma is a quilter and I'm sure she would put all the squares together for us after the wedding. I just don't want it to get folded up and thrown in a closet, which is what I'm afraid will happen.
We are doing something similiar to kcole. We will be having a quilt square at each guest's seat for them to sign or write a little message and then my grandmother is going to make a quilt for us with all of the squares. She is going to press them a certain way the day after the wedding so that the ink never runs and we can use it and wash it. I just figured this was something that we could actually use even if it's just on the couch while watching a movie or we can always use it as a baby blanket in the future.
We're doing a wish tree where folks can write pieces of advice or good wishes for us, sign it, and hang it on the tree. We'll either put the entire tree in our new home, or we'll scrapbook their advice/well wishes.
@ JennHasFeet - I love the guitar idea. So unique!
Our wedding is in a garden with a bunch of trees and we are thinking of using cross section tree rounds to be signed. I saw a picture of it somewhere and thought it fit our theme pretty well.
I just thought of a really cool idea that I think I might use! Read my new post and let me know what you think!
I saw a cool guest book idea on etsy, but for $75, I made it myself. It has pages in it with an envelope glued down on each one and a glass dish with cards beside it. The idea is the guests write well wishes or advise (!) and slide it into the envelope. I liked that better than just name and address. I made it with some of the neat photo paper that is out there and used shades of purple and green. It looks great.
I am doing a photo guest book, but not polaroid or photobooth. I am hiring some photography students and they will take the pictures.
I got this off of an Etsy seller. She will customize it to fit your wedding colors... I'm so excited for it! Plus shipping it cost $37 for 150 leaves and a 10 x 10 tree... I'll have to buy a frame, but I think thats great for something so unique and custom!
My great-aunt used to have a tablecloth that we would sign whenever we would go visit. In rememberance of her, and bacause I always loved finding my signature on it, we will have a tablecloth for our guests to sign. Later I'll embroider over the signatures to keep them from washing away. Glutton for punishment. :-)
We're having a blown up pic of us with matte around it for them to sign. We will frame it and hang it in our home.
