You could do a thin paint pen with silver or black ink. They look somewhat fancy and are permanent.
@bride2beIn2012: i thought of that. We used a metallic silver pen to address our invitations, but it tends to glob or smear at (very rare) times. I am just imaging people shaking them and trying to get them to work. And it also runs out quickly. I think Sharpie makes a metallic silver, but it is the regular size, which the tip might be too "fat" for signing in our book.
I think a ballpoint pen would be just fine for a photo guestbook. I dont think sharpie looks cheap at all. Could you do both?
What if I wrapped the sharpie in ribbon or something, to make it "prettier"?
you should use something acid-free and archival quality, which sharpie is not. go to the scrapbooking section of michaels and look around for something acid-free.
@kitzy: I did not know that, thanks for the tip! Any particular brand you would recommend?
Yep you need something acid free. If you go to Michaels, Martha Stewart has a line that has a TON of colours. You could do two colours that match your wedding colours.
Hope this helps.
You could wrap the sharpie in ribbon or something else to dress it up. It's really easy to do, I've made tons of flower topped pens, and they're quite simple.
Paint pens take a while to dry, I would do two or more differnt colored sharpies. If you wnat to dress them up, wrap them in ribbon or something.

Hello Hive! We had one of those photobooks from Shutterfly made, to use as our Guestbook. I figured we would let people use a fine tip black sharpie pen to sign the book since 1. it is permanent ink, 2. it is dark enough for the color pages, 3. will not smear. But FI thinks using a plain old sharpie is tacky and suggested a nice silver ball point pen. He got one as a gift and though we could put it to use. My concern though, is that the ball point ink is not "dark enough" for the glossy photo pages. (I am thinking back to signing yearbooks, etc. and remember always using a sharpie). So hive....which pen is best to use?
