Just curious....   I have always carried a purse, but I haven't ever been one to consider my purse an "accessory".   However, I've recently discovered that a lot of my girlfriends at work do consider this to be a huge deal.

Part of this stems from the fact that DH just got me a new Coach bag for my birthday.  I've never been into labels, but he is, so he thought this was a great gift for me (nevermind the list of stuff I wanted, lol!).   When I started carrying it to work, I've had lots of the girls there stop me to want to check it out.  Ummm.....ok?.....    I'm actually somewhat embarrassed when this happens....

@soon2bS:so he thought this was a great gift for me (nevermind the list of stuff I wanted, lol!)

Men! I wonder why I bother making lists at all for holidays and birthdays, it isn't like he gets anything on it anyway.

Now to the point of your thread, purses! I just sent a text to my FI and asked him what type of purses I carry and his response "the big expensive kind." LOL, yeah I'm kind of picky I admit it.

Oh,my. I LOVE purses. I don't get shoe fetishes, but a purse one? Yep!

I only carry Dooney purses. They are a little expensive, but they last for years. I'm carrying one now from 2yrs ago and my friend said it was cute and brand new.LOL

I don't get the ones that say DOONEY all huge, but the simle one with the duck flob and the Dooney and Bourke square on the front.

I'm not a label whore (I'll wear clothes from Walmart), but I LOVE Dooney.

@cirrus:  I'm very weirded out!   I just started carrying this bag yesterday, and I've had 4 different girls at work stop me & ask about it.   I don't like anything that draws attention to me, can't stand to wear clothes with visible labels most of the time.  Heck, I am even picky about what color car I drive because I don't want to draw any attention to myself.   So, to have that many comments in that short of time, it's just weird!

    @soon2bS:

I have many Coach purses (I am a total Coach whore, can't deny it), but I mainly carry one of their biggest bags that I had been eyeing for months. My mother owned it, and I had been impatiently waiting for her to tire of it, so that I could scoop her up!. Anywayz, it turned out that I didn't need to kidnap hers! We went to the Coach outlet and I bought an over 600 dollar bag for around two hundred bucks. It is the Coach Kirstin and I call her my pet. Many fawn over her because she is gorgeous. I am sorry...clearly I am obsessed with Coach, and I have been for almost two decades!!!

@soon2bS: I got a Coach purse at the outlet and I get complimented on it all of the time. The funny thing is I bought it because I wanted something that was nice enough to take to work and interviews - I picked what I thought was the least ugly option! I don't even really like it! I usually carry a Lacoste New Classic Roll Bag II that's made of a PVC type material so when it gets dirty I can wipe it off with a sponge. I tend to throw mine on the floor and spill things on it, lol.

They're definitely not an accessory for me. I keep purses for years.

I'm not a label whore by any means... most of the time i'm focused on comfort rather than being a fashionista.  however, i can totally justify the cost of an expensive handbag.  my reasoning is that it's something i'll use everyday, and if i only get a really nice bag every other year or so, the cost per wear is super tiny!  i'd rather have 1 really nice handbag, than a few so-so bags.  to answer your question.... right now, i rotate between a marc by marc jacobs satchel and a michael kors one shoulder.  love them!

ETA: i don't care for "logo" bags that have the designers name all over the place.  you'd have to either have really good eyesight, or be right next to me to be able to see the marc jacobs or michael kors info.

I have a wardrobe of purses in different colors and styles. I change my bag with my outfit. I don't buy anything that has somebody's logo splashed all over it. The day that Coach, or any other company, wants to pay me to advertise for them, that'll be the day I start carrying their purses.

Purses are def an accessory, purses and shoes are my weekness.  I don't particularly purchase on label, I purchase on if I like it.  I do have many expensive purses, but also alot of inexpensive ones.  I have gotten just as many compiments on my cheap ones as my expensive ones.  Marshalls and TJMaxx has several in house brands that are really well made and are still stylish.  My DH knows my love of accessories, last year for xmas, he built me a whole closet for them.

I'm not a huge fan of Coach but I do love nice bags.  I would rather have one or two nice bags versus 52 cheaply made bags.

I am currently carrying the bag below but in red.  It's MBMJ Hillier.

What kind of purse to you carry? : wedding Kate Beckinsale Marc Jacobs Hillier

i am currently alternating between the bag above and the one below.

What kind of purse to you carry? : wedding World+of+Neverfull5

I also carry Prada and Gucci.  i would love a Hermes birkin and a Chanel but they are a little too expensive =(

I carry Cole-Haan, Botkier, Miu-Miu, Isabella Fiore, Donald J. Pliner, Francesco Biasia: you name it and I've had it!  I'm a total handbag junkie.  Oh, almost forgot my Dior gaucho bag.  That was one of my best ebay scores ever.

But I'm getting a lot of attention right now with my burnt organge leather Cole-Haan bag. I doubt people know what kind of bag it is when they compliment me. They just love the color:)

Anyway, I tried to carry a non-designer bag and I just can't bring myself do it. Same with shoes. Sigh. Enjoy your new Coach bag and have fun with the attention:)

I don't really consider them an accessory. I only change them up every few months or so. I buy purses for function and quality, not for the label. I bought my first 2 Coach purses from their outlet this year and the label is not blatantly visible. All of my other purses come from all over the place and cost $60 at most!

I'm a designer whore when it comes to purses. At my old office, whenever I bought a new purse, the girl would circling around my cubicle to check out the purses. Once a while I I get the question "how much is it" and I would tell them.

To me purses are jewelries for the hand and arm. I rotate them every few months or so based on their colors, seasons and where I go.  (Can't you tell I'm crazy with purses?) LOL. I'd try not to get two purses with the same label; however, if I do LOVE the purse, I would add it to my collection.

It was painful when one of my ex(s) stabbed my Prada purse. Although I had it fixed, it wasn't the same (I could always see the fix when I look for it) so I gave it to mom.

OK. I stop being crazy now. LOL

Well, many of the designers listed above I'm not even familiar with, lol!   I know DH thought he was getting a nicely made bag, in a style I'd like.   He fusses all the time about the fact that I should have a nicer bag if it's something I'm going to carry daily....

I carry Coach and Louis Vuitton.  Coach because they're functional (lots of pockets and such), and LV because they're classic.

I have so many bags that I forget which ones I own lol.  It's an addiction.

My current purse is from....Target. Big spender right here. Purses and shoes... I just don't get it. I think I am missing some sort of girl gene.

However, I spend a ridiculous amount of money on makeup, so that kind of makes up for it...right?

I love purses and anything Coach has a special little place in my heart. I'm a total label whore when it comes to my handbags but I'll rock a ratty pair of Payless flats anyday!

I've always carried a purse and over the years they've gotten bigger and bigger. A few weeks ago I decided to lighten the load by moving only the necessities over to a clutch (wallet, keys, cell phone, mints and hand wash) and let me tell you, it's liberating! I just pop that sucker on my wrist and I'm good to go! I still use my purse during the week at work but on the weekends I've been using a clutch and I'm loving it.

I am a quality whore but am anti-label. There are equally good handbags the same price, cheaper and more expensive without the trendy name.

My current purse is falling apart. I have a bronze bag in the closet I will have to change to my mom gave me but I never used because its a Coach. I cant really justify buying a new purse right now being unemployed.  I use my purse until I cant so quality is important.  I dont switch unless I am going out or to a wedding and need a nice clutch.

I like my purses to have color or be something other than black or brown generally though- which is strange since I dont switch them. My current one is a teal color (more on the green than blue hue)

I have a COACH, many L.A.M.B (I love Gwen Stefani) a Dooney, Juicy Couture and a Prada. I rotate them depending on my outfit or size of the purse. I would LOVE a Chanel :)

I don't care at all about brands; I just like bags that look cool. My current purse, which I've had for 3 years and still get compliments on from strangers:

What kind of purse to you carry? : wedding Shoulder Bags On

It's made of soda can tabs, and I love it.

Before that, I had one of these:

Made out of seatbelts, which I also loved.

I have a purse that I bought from Target. Couldn't tell you the brand. I also very rarely carry it.

I usually just carry my wallet in my back pocket or in a zipped up coat pocket. My cell phone goes in my front jeans pocket. If I need chapstick, it goes in the other front jeans pocket. :) I can be a little lazy...

My 'daily driver' is a cross body Prada messenger bag.  It's black, the perfect size, comfortable, and I also adore Prada.

I also carry a $12 Marc Jacobs canvas tote that I picked up at the store in NYC and a Longchamp I couldn't resist in Paris.

Also in my closet:  Vintage Prada Tessuto tote with chain straps, Prada pochette (evening bag), Prada embossed logo tote, gorgeous cream color leather Coach tote... and tons more.  I was a BAG WHORE when I was in corporate, now I just enjoy them.  :)

My everyday work bag is a Gucci Tote that my brother got me 3-4 years ago. I have one Coach bag that my old boss got me like 5 years ago. The name brand bags are def very nice and last very long.

When I buy myself a purse I'm too cheap and don't spend more than $50. My newest yellow bag is from Marshalls for $7!!! hahaha.

I "need" a new fall bag. Prerably a crossbody messenger bag, I'm eyeing one up from H&M....$24.95!! hehe

Meh...this post is giving me purse envy!! I've been dying for a new bag (I'm looking at cole haan) but can't really justify it since I"m unemployed. Boo! but I have a marc by marc jacobs bag and a kenneth cole bag, and I usually alternate between the two. I also have a super old Herves Chapelier bag which is now falling apart because I used pretty much every single day at work for like 4 years.

@melissa0607 I totally I agree I would rather have a few nice bags than 20 bags I am lukewarm about.. A chanel bag is on my wishlist right now, I can afford it but I just started reading "rich dad poor dad" and I don't want to splurge on things I don't need untill I am settled for eveythingt that is really important to me: ie: kids, a bigger apartment to accomodate kids etc, not to mention finsihing paying for my wedding=) I don't really wear coach either, my go-to bags right now are fendi, kate spade and gucci. Ive had the fendi for 7 years, the kate spade for 6 and gucci for 1. They have definetely held their value, and outlasted my less expensive bags which were a fraction of the price but only lasted a year or so. My LV wallet is literally 10 years old, and I think it has another 5 years left in it.

I was raised ina conservative household so I've always been conservative with money, but when I buy things I only get things I really like.

    On my wishlist are:

    A Chanel bag

    &

Bigger diamond earrings. (I have quarter carats, but I want full carat studs.)

Maybe I will get them as a wedding or push gift =)

I LOVE birkin bags too, but I can;t justify paing $10,000 for a bag no matter how much money you have. Bags do not appreciate, they depreciate the minute you use them just like cars do. So they are only worth it to me if I wear them A LOT and have them for a LONG time. Jewelry on the other hand, maintains its value so maybe I will get the earings first. They are re-sellable.

I feel the same way about shoes. Quality shoes last years, cheap shoes last 1 season and are usually bad for your feet/back long term. So I consider shoes an investment (not for resale) but for my back, feet and general happiness=)  I only buy shoes I LOVE. But I only have 15 pairs of shoes in my rotation right now. If I don't wear something for 2 years, I donate it.

Everyday I have a black Botkier bag I love, I swap in Treesje and Rebecca Minkoff otherwise. I always like Kooba bags but I've never bought one. If it has labels on it I'm not interested. I like good quality bags with a little visual interest that aren't crazy overpriced. I want a Chloe Paraty so badly but thats probably never happening.

OMG I love purses! My everyday go to: Dooney and Coach. But my fav is my Burberry handbag. I would LOOOOVE a LV bag but I can't quite bring myself to click "order" on a bag that pricey when I really should put it towards student loans... But I sure can dream!
