I’m kind of looking for ideas…my Darling Husband turns 28 on Sunday, and here is what I have for him so far:
MANGROOMER Private Body Shaver
MANGROOMER Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer
League of Legends gaming card
Retro Nintendo contoller (USB) so he can play Nintendo games on our computer with his emulator program
In all fairness, he specifically ASKED for the grooming things! I’m not trying to not-so-subtly hint that he is too hairy or something. LOL But even though he asked for those two things, I still feel like that is kind of a crummy gift to give…what do you guys think?? 🙁 Our one year anniversary is coming up in a month, so I’d like to get him some concert tickets for that…
What kind of things do YOU get your SO’s for their birthdays??? I feel like my gift of body hair trimmers is something a couple that has been together for 30+ years would exchange!!!!

I usually get Fiance tickets to something.
He loves Broadway shows (was always taken to shows by his grandma who died recently) so I like to get him tickets for that.
Our 5 year anniversary (dating anniversary) is coming up and I am getting him tickets to Jesus Christ Superstar.
Other stuff I’ve gotten him:
A beer making kit
A record player

I always make reservations at a really nice restaurant. And we usually take a trip or he gets something gadgety he’s been wanting.

I love the idea of tickets! Also, how fun would a record player be??? That is a cool idea, esp. since Darling Husband is a huge music lover!!

@yellowshoe: I think I’ll probably take him to the Japanese Steakhouse that he loves too…I forgot to count that in my original list!! 🙂

DH’s birthday was a few weeks ago and I got him tickets to see his favorite band play in Montreal. We’re in Upstate, NY so we drove up and made a weekend of it. In the past I always got him small things he needed or some clothes but going forward I’m going to do experiences over actual gifts since there’s never anything he needs that would make a good gift. Anything fun that I could get him he buys for himself when he wants it. We’re not people who wait for special occasions to buy things.

His last birthday which was in November I got him a new ipod touch. I remember his birthday before that in 2010 I made him a birthday cake & got him a jacket. We was short on cash since our wedding was a month away. I can’t remember the years before that. But usually just something I know he is eyeing or just something I think he will like. Like one time I got him a watch. Can’t remember if that was for a birthday or not but still. haha

I know he wants the hair trimmers but that doesn’t really seem like a gift so much as something you pick up at Target along with toothpaste and toilette paper. If he needs them he should just buy them.
I like to get presents that are something that the person would never have splurged on for themselves. For DH’s last birthday I got him a vintage watch. The year before he actually also got a watch but a fancy, going out one. I’ve gotten him tickets to events that he wouldn’t have splurged on otherwise, a really nice peacoat one time. things along those lines.

- First year: We just started dating a week before his birthday. So, he got me as a present. 😉
- Second year: I took him to a Phillies game and out to dinner beforehand.
- Third year: I bought him a Heineken Beer Tender.
Not sure what I’m going to do this year since our wedding is three weeks afer his birthday. I’ll think of something really special though.

Darling Husband is a big kid and likes having lots of gifts to open, so I usually get him a bunch of smaller things. Usually some clothes because he rarely shops for himself, small tools or useful household gadgets, video games, board games, puzzles (like metal puzzles, not jigsaw puzzles) and anything else that looks interesting from places like ThinkGeek.com. I can always find him something cool from there.

I forgot to say that Fiance never asked for any of his presents. I always find something last minute to surprise him with.

I’ve had great luck with shirts from woot.com and fun stuff from thinkgeek.com. Also cool kitchen gear because he loves to cook. But we’re poor students, so we don’t splurge as much as folks with real jobs do!

Haha, Fiance is 27 on Saturday. There was a Groupon way back in December that expires next week, and I was all “oh crap gotta get this and take Fiance out to dinner… even though it’s a Groupon”. I gave him fair warning, so he is aware of the Groupon. We’re still gonna have a damn good dinner.
I agree with the crummy feeling, I don’t like to give Fiance things he’s asked for. I mean, I will, but I like to add things to it as well.
He’d been wanting some slippers, and while I hate the idea of getting him “practical” things he needs/wants like slippers (been together 500 years, much?). I got him slippers, and some other things. Even though I had to tell him what one of them were, since he was about to buy his own.
I have no clue what to get him… he’s mentioned wanting a Leatherman, but that’s pretty obvious.

- First year, we were dating for a couple months… We went out on a date, I got him a card and a plate full of baked goods (I was leaving the next morning for a week, so they were to hold him over haha)… Oh! And I told him I loved him for the first time – he had told me the week before, but I didn’t want to just say it because he said it… I wanted to say it because I wanted to 🙂 So, that was his gift!
- Second year, we were married… Went on a date… I gave him some clothes, a book (actually a 3 book series, bound together in one book), and a couple movies he’s wanted 🙂 …I actually had a couple great ideas, a couple video games and books he had mentioned… And he bought the for himself like 3 weeks before his birthday! Ugh!
His birthday is in November…. Makes it hard to think of good gifts for Christmas and birthday that close together! Haha

You get him more presents than I ever do! Last year I got him a groupon for some golfing (because he was complaining how he wanted to go), which he never used before it expired. This year I don’t know what I’ll get him, but 2 weeks after the wedding it’s likely to just be me!
