The back of your dress has a lot of detail, so my vote would be shoulder length or a birdcage veil.
I would not do cathedral length with your dress. Cathedral length veils are intended for dresses with a really long train. Yours is more of a medium train.
Fingertip length is very flattering on most people, but it would cover the back detailing of your dress. If you don't mind, then fingertip length might be a good choice.
On whether to do the lace or a straight/ribbon edge, that will depend on the style of your wedding overall :) If you are looking for an affordable lace option, check out etsy.com. They have a lot of veils that are much less expensive than a bridal salon.
Good luck!
@Smith207- I'm not sure a birdcage veil is for me, but then again, I've not tried one on so...anything is possible! Thank you for sharing your opinion!
I voted for two things: first, the cathedral-length mantilla, because it would be a neat effect if the veil extends just a little beyond your train and the detail at the edge frames it out; second, the shoulder-length plain veil, because it would be an appropriate feminine touch without being over-the-top for your dress. Since your dress has no beading or crystals, I wouldn't recommend any of that on the veil either, however an ivory flower hairpiece would look very nice. Those are two completely different looks, so it all depends on whether you want to go dramatic or refined.
@jenbrandner- I love the idea of a cathedral-length mantilla! The image you paint is a tanalizing one! How many tiers do you think would look good on the shoulder length veil?
@sandypie- of the few responces I've gotten, that is a popular one! :)
I would go with cathedral length, but I would skip the mantilla. I would think that would complicate the simplicity of the dress. I would go for a light weight raw edge silk tulle. It would be light an airy and it flows so elegantly.
@rabbit - I wouldn't have more than two tiers on a shoulder-length veil with your dress. When I look at your dress, I see classy and elegant, and to me that means you should pair it with a veil whose simplicity speaks refinement. So one or two tiers only, nothing that's too puffy, and maybe a little design around the edges, but let the shape of the veil speak for itself. Good luck!!
@tksjewelery- I didn't know there was such a thing as silk tulle! i love the idea of a veil which flows freely... :D
@jenbrandner- Refinement! Love it! That's the look I'm striving for- classy, timeless, refined, elegant. Thanks for the tip and the lovely wordage!

Amazingly, of all the many places I went to to try on wedding dresses, not a single place had me try on a veil. Originally I was in love with the idea of a fingertip Mantilla in ivory (to match the ivory color of my dress), but the cost makes me hesitate and, frankly, I am not sure it'd look that nice with my dress. Then, i fell in love with pictures of Cathedral cut edged veils flowing in the breeze. SO pretty! Then I began to worry if that'd be too long and formal. I love the idea of having a veil covering my face and being lifted during the ceremony, but I hate the way two-tiered veils look bunched and humongous on people's heads (not everyone's, but I know I already have a big head, no need to make it look bigger!).
Now? I have no idea what veil, if a veil at all, what length, what kind of edging, etc. one tier? two to cover my face? short, medium, long? fancy lace or simple edge?
Ahhhh! Please help me hive!
