All right, I need to know what kind of veil can/should go with this dress. I have short hair, sculpted bob to be specific, so no up dos or gigunda tiaras please. I am considering a fingertip, simple applique mantilla (not the huge lacey table-cloth kind as the dress has no lace on it). Anyway, I want to know what you think would work best. The wedding is outside in a botanical garden in May. It is my second wedding, but his first and I want to make his family happy/meet expectations with whatever I wear. The best way to do that is to suvey a crowd.

I really like your dress. I think that a shorter veil for outside would work great. Have you considered a fascinator?

Yes, but I just made one for my best friend in January and the thing is that I want to go different so that she gets to keep that style as hers kinda. I know it sounds crazy, but it just seems unspokenly important to me.

Well, in that case go with the fingertip or elbow. I think it'll work just fine.

I also have a mermaid dress, and I went with a shorter veil, I think it's elbow -- raw edge.

My dress is very similar and I'm getting married outside in a garden.  I wasn't originally planning on wearing a veil (I was just going to do a nice flower or something) BUT i found this great blusher veil for $25 at DB and it looks great with the dress so I went for it. I think I short birdcage or blusher would look fantastic with your dress. Good luck!

    I blew the budget    7-19-10

A veil vendor sent me some tips a few weeks ago.

You should consider the detailing on the back of your dress and the overall design of the dress. The veil length should be cut just above or below any focal point on your dress. It is unwise to choose a veil length that ends right where your bodice begins because it cuts you in half visually (something just above or just below). If you have a sharply defined waistline, don't choose wedding veil that ends right at the waistline - something slightly above or below it.

I would agree with the other bees and say fingertip or elbow even with some detail on the edge. Such a pretty dress! I am getting married outside too and that is what I am planning.

Why not a birdcage veil it's perfect for outside diffrent than just a flower and nit to big like a veil. I don't know that's just my opinion.
