    Hi Bees!

I am going in for a veil consultation tonight- I got the name of a milliner working out of a bridal salon here in Chicago who does aweseom custom work from a friend of mine.  I am torn between doing something 'anti-gravity' (as I'm calling it) and different, but also drawn to a traditional veil.  What do you think would look best with my dress?  Below is my dress and veil types I am considering.  Opinions would be greatly appreciated!

    traditional elbow length:

My vote will always be for a cathedral length veil! But If these are the choices you like.. birdcage! I rarely like elbow length.. the anti gravity looks like one of those things you will be defending to your children (like poofy sleeves) lol but the birdcage has been around for a while and just keeps coming back!

@MrsNeutrino   Thanks for your opinion!  I want to go with something that doesn't cover the texture of the skirt, which is why I'm avoiding cathedral length (we'll also be getting married outside) but I can't deny its appeal- they're gorgeous!

I like the birdcage w/ that dress (but I'm partial since I wore a birdcage, haha!)

But, for some reason I feel that dresses that either have a dropped waist & a full skirt (like yours,) or mermaid styles look really good with a birdcage veil.

I love the birdcage but the anti-gravity poof is so fun too...I love how dramatic it is.

I think I'd vote fingertip veil! Just a little longer than elbow length, but not long enough to cover up the gorgeous bottom of your dress

@JBing: A couple things: 1. How did you highlight your text?! 2. the texture of your dress IS beautiful! But really light/sheer veils would still show it ya know! I am going to find a pic for you :)

I am worried I would regret the poof years later.  I do love a bit of drama and pushing the envelope...but maybe it's too much.  There is also a bow/sash that came with the dress that I may wear like this, so I don't want there to be too much going on:

And my hair will be a sideswept do sort of like this:

    Does that change things?

@MrsNeutrino  haha, I don't really know how to properly '@name' someone, so I copy, and then when I paste, it's highlighted :)  A sheer veil wouldn't cover so much, and I would definitely have it off for the reception!

Oooh that is a tough one. I voted for birdcage but I think anything on the shorter side, including elbow length, will look stunning. So beautiful.

i say you go with a simple hairpiece, put a vintage brooch or an elegant comb in it and let the dress speak for itself :) either way you'll look gorgeous!

I think there's so much going on with your dress already that you should keep it simple and understated with your veil, so my vote goes for something very sheer, and very simple.

@Aisling10:@KristenGettingMarried: I agree, simple would be best...sometimes I get caught up in individual things and don't look at it as a whole :)

I am with Mrs. Neutrino -- a very sheer, invisible edge, cathedral length veil is the best way to go if you're going to wear a veil.  Anything else will compete with your gown.  All of the focus on your absolutely magnificent gown is on the skirt, so you do not want to wear some type of innovative veil to compete with that. Even a traditional elbow length veil would not look as good with your gown because it would provide a distinct break in the middle, when your dress already has a definitive separation between the top and bottom. Your dress is breathtaking!!

@JBing:  I wore my mom's sheer cathedral length veil with my very textured dress and I think it added incredible drama and grandeur. This isn't the best picture of the veil, but it's the only one I ahve that shows the veil over the skirt.  So I'm voting cathedral, too. :)What kind of veil with this dress? I want to get married again and take more pictures simply because of that.  I think you should reconsider the cathedral length.  Here's some of the granduer a long veil can produce:What kind of veil with this dress? I got exactly in between all fo the above but in tulle! =)

I have a gown that has a lot going on at the body and skirt and didnt want to take away from it; like I felt all the veils did.

@MrsNeutrino:haha, no, I like it!  Sometimes I get crazy ideas and I'm glad everyone is sharing their opinion- it helps clarify what I'm going for or what aspect is most important.  Now I think I'm between a simple 'bubbly' bird cage or a full-on cathedral veil.   I DID try on a cathedral veil when I first bought my dress and was of course in love, but didn't know if it was my thing.  It's a different way to add drama while not taking away from the dress :)

P.S. that Monique Lhullier dress you posted was a favorite of mine for a while!

I had a patterened skirt and i wore a fingertip length but it had a little umph to it - it had a blusher so that helped with the volume

@JBing: Your dress is exquisite! I love its texture and grandeur. WOW. Absolutely creamy and stunning skirt. I think that if you have the big bow poofy in the back as you posted, then definitely go with a birdcage veil. If you don't have the bow, I think the elbow or even a fingertip length would do nicely. I disagree that the cathedral length would work. I see there are some dramatic dresses/skirts with cathedral length veils as examples above, but your skirt is a full A-line, almost ball gown, and the texture of it begs to be adored unhindered, even by tulle. As transparent as tulle is, it still deflects the light a certain way and might just be too much in the back. So I think this is a case of less is more. Good luck with your decision!

@JBing: Not at all! Please go for it! I searched High and Low for this veil, and when I found it I had to have it! I even tried DIY'ing it but it just wasn't the same!

Im wearing a hair comb too probably on the alternate size of the poof/comb of the veil. I also plan to wear it at an angle like shown in the pic.

These veils are insanely expensive and the ones i tried on just recently were no lie starting at $400. I didnt pay NEARLY that much.

    @lovekiss: & @RR:

Glad you ladies like it! I know its really different than the birdcages we usually see. Just was not crazy about the french netting with my gown.

Also, for others to look at these were my faves before finding "the one". lol

I'd recommend a longer veil to balance out the weightiness of the train. Birdcage seems to be the trend everyone is choosing but I think you've got enough drama in the skirting that a simple veil is really going to be the best.

Hi Ladies!  Well, my appt. with the milliner was informative! although I still may not be 100% certain.  She did tell me that with the texture of my skirt (it's English net) a veil of similar material would catch and stick on my skirt, making for a less flowy, airy look I had hoped for, so cathedral length might not work in my favor.

We tried one of her creations and took account of the bow I would be wearing on the back of the dress...this one hit above the bow and had some of the volume/drama I am looking for.  Excuse my un-bridal attire :)

What kind of veil with this dress? PICS : wedding dress veil birdcage Photoo

I tried on a netted birdcage and wasn't loving it- although a sheer bubbly one still intrigues me :)

Her other idea, since I am changing necklaces for ceremony and reception, was to also change headpieces.  I could do a veil with my pearl statement necklace, and then a small comb to the back/side for the reception that goes with my amethyst necklace.  She mentioned using scraps from when they hem my skirt and turning then into a pretty hair piece.  I like the two-look idea!  So I'm leaning toward either a veil that hits mid-back or a chin length one, and then a comb or pins in my hair for the reception :)

ETA: I also realized while I was there that the more tradiational veils made me feel too girly and sweet- which I'm not comfortable with, it isn't me-I'd like be be a bit more sassy/fashion-forward  :)

@JBing: Awesome! Love the bubble veil pictured! But I'm super bias and still imagine and picture the Birdcage in Tulle.

And you cant go wrong with being a TWO veil bride! Still considering wearing mine for the first dance and such of the reception since its can be moved and twisted to the back.

So glad things are coming together for you! And you have some great advice. I took love the look of the Cathedral but seems it could get clingy; glad the lady made that point!

Best of Luck! Can't wait to see the finished look!
