Hey ladies! Does anyone have any experience doing an online/work from home type of things? A few things got me thinking about it recently. 1. DH and I could use the extra income but I really need something with flexibility so getting another part time job is hard. 2. I've been home a lot lately since I'm on school break and I really enjoy having the extra time. The threads about SAHM and SAHW have really got me thinking about whether or not it's possible to work from home since we can't afford for me to not work at all. 3. When we start TTC, it would be nice to know that i have some sort of income coming in when I'm out of work on maternity leave (since I'm almost certain I won't get any paid leave).

I wouldn't mind taking a couple online courses to qualify for a job of this nature, but I wouldn't want anything that takes over a year to complete. I don't really know what's out there though. I've tried googling, but of course this topic gets a lot of spam and junk websites. I don't think I have the right personality to totally start my own business like event planning or anything, so I'd prefer to just be working for someone lol I do take online surveys that I get paid a couple of dollars for here and there, but most of them I don't qualify for so I've made only maybe $20 in the last year (PM me if you want a link to a legit get-paid-to-take-surveys site, btw)

I'm also interested in writing children's books, but I wouldn't know how to go about that either, and I imagine it's probably hard to make any real money off of that anyway.

So what types of jobs do you do where you work from home? Is it enjoyable, or is it just like a kind of trade off where you don't like it much, but you really like the flexibility/pay?

I've been looking for ever and yet to find anything decent besides data entry and the like. :(

    Hopefully other ladies have insight.

I would love to have extra $$$ as well!

One thing I've seen lately is a lot of online editing companies that employ copy/proof editors for freelance work.  You can check out the American Copy Editors Society or the Editorial Freelancers Association for more info on certifications/training and work from home opportunites.

@Mrs. Spring: Thanks! That actually sounds like something right up my alley! I've always been better with words than numbers heh

I know that SAT prep companies often outsource the grading of their test prep essays. I did some work for a company where you were paid by the essay. And different essays had different pay ranges.

The work fluctuates since there's usually more to grade closer to each of the SAT seatings, but it's fairly easy work and decent pay.

I think they also exist for college essays, thesis editing, etc.

you can research listening to audiobooks.  A friend of mine does this..she will listen to an audio book to make sure there is no background noise.  Such as the reader shifting positions or flipping a page and the noise makes it on to the tape.

Kind of cool because you get to "read" books as well as work at the same time.

I have a friend whose mother did medical transcriptions from home.
