"I Do" stickers on the soles of the bride's shoes. And also Save the Dates. I've only gotten one ever, and I was surprised when I got that one because nobody else had ever sent me one for their wedding before. I don't think they're done a lot where I'm from, but wedding boards have you thinking everyone does them! (I didn't do them either.)
That reminds me...the sticks with the ribbons on the end. I never saw those before.
I must admit that many of the small town/rural weddings in the midwest, or atleast my area, are less likely to have many of the trendy extras found in other areas, so a LOT of things on this blog I'm seeing for the first time after having been to a few weddings.
-save the dates
-(yay) flags / ribbon wands
-ampersand bride/groom chair signs
-typewriter guestbook
-i do bride shoe stickers
really a lot of other things too that i just can't think of right now...
Definitely personalized bridesmaid and bride hangers. I never heard of that until reading stuff on the bee. I got my inspiration from a fellow bee, and I LOVE how they turned out! Everyone is going to be impressed because none of my girls have heard of that idea until I told them!
-Save the Dates
-Custom card Boxes
- I do shoe stickers
-Flags/Ribbon Wands
-Fake flower weddings (nothing against them, I just didn't know people did that and I think its awesome!)
-Button Bouquets/ Brooch Bouquets (both very cool)
-Programs
-OOT bags
Had I not joined a wedding board, I wouldn't have known about:
That's all I can think of right now.
@YSQueen: oooh... i did not know what yay flags were until about five seconds ago... and now i must have them.
Oh man. So many things. But projects, specifically, I wouldn't know about:
- Personalized hangers
- The different favor ideas out there
- I Do stickers on shoes
- Faux flower arrangements/bouquets (which are gorgeous, btw!)
- Special BM gifts/Parent gifts
I think that's all for projects. When it comes to planning , the Bee has helped me with almost everything.
- Card Boxes
- Jumping the Broom
- I Spy game for the reception
- Custom dresses from China
Um.... what in the world is a "tears of joy" packet? That's one I have yet to encounter!
I didn't know about Yay flags until just now either! Love it, and adding to the idea list now :)
@UK Bride: From what I gather, this is really big on The Knot's website. People decorate little packages of tissues and label them "for your tears of joy."
I don't think we'll have many criers in our wedding, so the project never appealed to me.
Hangers, YAY Flags, bunting (sad, I know! LOL), ribbon wands, bathroom baskets, mustaches on a stick, etc.
I really didn't know much until I joined the 'Bee!
What's jumping the broom? I've seen it mentioned, but I don't know what it is. Someone explain, please!
When I was planning, I consumed pretty much all wedding media that I could find. A lot of these details find their way into blogs, magazines, tv shows, and commercial sites (i.e. etsy), so it's hard for me to say where I saw them first. There aren't too many details that someone isn't selling on etsy at this point.
One of the things that I get from the weddingbee is what girls are actually doing and the choices that they are actually making as opposed to the magazine/professional stylist with a huge budget version of weddings. Also, plus sized, non-white, older, and tatooed brides are pretty much missing from the magazines.
@heather5743: I've only seen jumping the broom at African American weddings, but it's a custom in some other cultures, too!
i would not thought of blowing bubbles during the recessional, making menu cards, i also did not know about the wine box ceremony which was a hit at my wedding.
@sarahbabs:The couple writes letters to themselves (or each other) about their relationship and marriage. The couple seals the letters in a box with a bottle of wine during the ceremony. Some say that the box is opened on a major anniversary, but I've also heard that it is opened if they ever go through a rough patch.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I just checked in with my month board on another site and people were talkinga bout "tears of joy" packets. I realized that I had never heard of such things before joining that site. The same goes with door hangers (hangers for hotels that say "Do not disturb, we are getting ready for ____ & ___'s wedding").
Just for fun, I'm wondering what details or projects you wouldn't have known about if you hadn't read about them on the wedding message boards.
I guess I've started the list...
