Here are my top 3:
1) A Walk to Remember (I still remember to this day - I bawled for an hour!)
2) The Notebook
3) Titanic
*note* Time Traveler's Wife was also a tear-jerker
My worst by far is PS I Love You. Oh man, within like 5 minutes i'm bawling uncontrollably and don't stop until like an hour after its over!
Also, Titanic and the Notebook get me!
That I can think of The Notebook. I have a list of movies I want to see that will probably make me cry but haven't had time to watch yet.
1. PS, I Love You
2. Armageddon, especially when Liv Tyler is talking to her dad on the tv
3.The Notebook. They remind me of my grandma and grandpa, who died within 3 months of each other after being married for over 50 years. He literally couldn't live without her.
(honorable mention: Father of the Bride. Something about Steve Martin's character and his daughter always reminded me of me and my dad)
ETA:
@RosieGirl: me, too!!! I don't think a movie has ever made me cry as hard and as long as I cry watching PS, I Love You. Yet it ends on such a loving, hopeful note!
The Notebook, especially at the end!
PS I Love You, A Walk to Remember...there is one other one I just watched recently that I totally cried at but I cant remember what it was!!
Steele Magnolias-and it's on right now, at the major tear-jerking part.
Oh man...Marley and Me, The Notebook, Titanic, Pearl Harbor, The Green Mile....I could go on and on and on....
The 2 movies that I haven't seen yet but want to (been putting them off becauase I know they are sad) Marley & Me and UP.
away we go, it was so touching and the couple reminded me a lot of me and FI (he cried too!).
and titanic of course, after seeing it probably fifty times in my life now the effect still hasn't worn off.
Is it bad that I know all mine off the top of my head? They're not your standard answers - I'm not really a crier. But:
1. Radio
2. Legends of the Fall (when Sam dies)
3. 4 Weddings and a Funeral (the Auden poem)
4. Glory
5. Green Mile
6. Stepmom ("Hey Mom? Nobody loves you like I do"- I lost my biscuits)
Not to be a downer but any movie having to do with the holocaust gets to me - Life is Beautiful, Jakob the Liar, Schindler's list - forget it, I was hiccupping.
And I will admit I totally lost it during The Notebook - but it was more because I lost my grandmother to alzheimer's than because of the love story.
Well I watched Marley and Me at the theatre when it came out - HUGE mistake!!! LOL I had no idea what the storyline was, and the previews looked like nothing but fun and happy. huh. I was a hot mess in there, trying not to just bawl in public, had my head tilted back so my nose wouldn't run. Awful!!!
I was still crying on the way to the car, and then once we got home, as soon as I saw my dog I lost it again, and started hugging him, telling him how much I loved him hahahaha. I'm sure he was probably like "What the hell, mom?!"
*the notebook
*cold mountain
*titanic
-my fiance said UP made him CRY...so yea I really need to see that.
To be honest I cry at pretty much any movie that isn't a comedy. It doesn't take a lot.
I totally cried watching UP! @Chartreuse - no, it's not all sad. Just one part near the beginning and it's more bittersweet than sad, really. You'll know it when you see it. (wink)
Saving Private Ryan
Blood Diamond
Love Actually (not a good idea to see that directly after breaking up with someone!)
P.S. I love you (thanks everyone - forgot about that. FI had to pause the movie because I was bawling before the opening credits and he thought something else was wrong!) LOL
Um what doesn't make me cry. Steel Magnolias and Father of the Bride are pretty reliable for tears. Also, I just saw this Broadway show Next to Normal - I've never cried so much at the theater. Heartbreaking.
armageddon is a classic.
newer movies: marley&me, up, and my sister's keeper
The Notebook often makes me cry and PS I Love You, ugh! At least with most movies like the Notebook, the sad part is at the end but it was in the beginning of PS I Love You and then it just keeps remindinging you and going back to the beginning so it's just sad all through the movie! I love it though. Up made me cry a bit. I saw it in theaters with hubby and I saw ok (hard to cry when someone is poking you in the eyeball asking if you're crying yet), but then I took it with me to work (nanny) and I was making them dinner as they watched it and I was trying so hard to hold back from crying lol
Charlotte's Web
Titanic
Untamed Heart
Terms of Endearment
Shawshank Redmption
OMG I forgot about Untamed Heart. Good call. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I cry while watching certain episodes of LOST - can we say the Penny/Desmond reunion? I died.
Oooh I forgot about Terms of Endearment! That one makes me cry too!
Has anyone read My Sister's Keeper the book?
Now, what did you think about the movie vs the book?
I liked the movie much better. I don't want to give any spoilers but there are deviations.
I cry just looking at the DVD case of my copy of The Notebook. :) Definitely my fave romantic story EVER!
I usually tear up any time there is serious father/daughter interaction in any movie. I don't have a really close relationship with my dad (we actually worked together so we were very close, but just more in a professional way) and I think it's my subconcious saying something to me!
I pretty much tear up at most of these mentioned. But has anyone seen a movie called "My Life Without Me"? This movie sticks out in my mind big time when I think of bawling my eyes out. It was on some movie channel a few years ago- maybe an independent film, but it's pretty heavy duty about a young mother who is dying and has to leave her 2 little girls and makes a list of things she wants to do for her last 2 months alive. I was a mess for a whole week I'm sure...
Wall-E!!! Cry my eyes out every single time! This might sound ridiculous, but the two robots are more like me and my FI than any other movie characters I've ever seen.
The Notebook
PS I love you
The Guardian
Catch and Release
Up (believe it or not)
Marley & Me
There are others I can't think of at the moment.
Oh wow, The Notebook made me SOB for like 30 mins straight. I haven't watched it since!
My Girl makes me cry, Titanic... even All Dogs go to Heaven lol.
Marley & Me absolutely destroyed me. I was sobbing in the theater...then I watched it again later on a flight...and again...sobbing, but at different parts...really why would you show that movie on a plane?!
Marley and Me literally made me a sobbing, bawling wreck of a human being. My mom and I literally cried for about 2 hours after the movie ended. I could...not...stop crying....
@Dancy- I forgot to put it on my list, but Legends of the Fall totally makes me cry too.
I watched Marley and Me with hubby so I didn't try so much at that one. He's always poking at my eyes asking if I'm crying yet so it gets annoying and I'm not totally enveloped in the story so I don't cry. Titanic came out before I became a girly mush that cried at movies (The Notebook was the first movie I cried at and was a complete shock to me that I was bawling over a movie) so I didn't cry during that one.
Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Deep Impact, Stepmom, Titanic, Star Trek (first 5 minutes?!), Braveheart, I am Legend, Friday Night Lights, Ghost, HP 4 (when Cedric died), I am Sam, Hotel Rwanda, Selena, Forest Gump, the end of the Return of the King... to name a few. haha. Obviously I cry all the time.
I refuse to see Marlee and Me because I still cry when I think about my dog dying a few years ago. UP made one of my guy friends cry, so I do want to see that.
Movies have never made me cry....until Marley and Me. I even knew the ending going in, and it STILL made me cry. I was pretty close with PS, I Love You and The Notebook.
Up, Bambi & The Lion King are the first that come to mind, but I'm a crier so pretty much anything will do it. I cry at commercials - there used to be one for an area hospitals when I was growing up where some little boy watches his sister get rushed to the hospital by ambulance while Tomorrow from Annie is blasting away. It would ruin my entire day.
Shawshank and Meet Joe Black... I watched something else lately that made me bawl my eyes out, but I think it was hormones. I can't fathom why I sobbed through the end of "Where the Wild Things Are" but I did!
@ Boston Bee -- I didn't cry at HP4 but I will admit that the actor who played Cedric's father did an amazing job at cries of grief & shock. I'll admit I watched that scene a couple times when I 1st saw the movie - he was really good. I could see how that could make you teary.
