I went from a common vietnamese last name to a german one.
You should see the look on people's face when they find out I'm asian. haha.
What did your married name do to you?
I'm a Russian no matter what, but my husband's last name is German and English.
I went from an italian last name to a german one. Although, I am hyphenating them.
I will be ditching my Loooong French name for a short Italian Name :)
I will be going from Hungarian to Swiss. I can't wait to not have to spell my name 8 times before people will understand what I'm saying. :)
From Italian to Indian, although your last name doesn't change your nationality :) I think you mean perceived heritage. I will always be Italian/Irish.
I'm Asian but my last name sounded very Caucasian anyway... but I now officially have an English one.
From british, by way of the fur trade, to French, which also works well with my Ojibwe heritage.
You wouldn't know unless you were Brazilian but I'm going from an English last name to a Brazilian one. If you were American you probably wouldn't notice, but in Brazil they know the last name right away, I guess it's pretty common!
@arenyth: haha yeah, you're right. I know as I was typing the title I had a feeling nationality wasn't the right word. Thanks! I meant heritage. I'll change it.
i went from a pretty rare English name to a common Chinese name....love it!
i went from a 10-letter german last name to an 11-letter indian last name. i love the look on people's faces when they see my long indian name and see my pale white face. haha.
i had a 3-letter korean last name, and now i have a 12-letter polish last name.
plus my first name is korean. YEAYUH - you should see the looks i get. i have a funny name. :P
well mine would be changing to a Nigerian one.....and no one will think twice about it (except when trying to sound out the multi-syllabic tongue twister) cause errrr.......Im black. lol
My maiden name was a really well known Irish name...think Gone With the Wind;)
Now you can't tell what I am by my last name.
Mine is changing from a 5 letter English name to a 5 letter Irish name... Not changing that much!
I am switching from a hispanic last name to a french last name, which I am kinda sad about :\
Not because I dont want to take my husbands last name, but I feel like I am abandoning my culture lol stupid, I know.
I went from my French last name to what I understand is to be a name from the Netherlands. I liked my french last name =( hehe
I'll be going from a not-so-common English name to a VERY common Irish name.
I'm changing from a pretty British last name (that goes well with my first name) to a hard to spell Ukranian last name. I'm not very happy about it, but there's no way I'd not change my last name.
I wish the tradition was to just take the better sounding/ easier to spell last name!
I am going from German American (i.e. a made up name made from a German name Americanized to hide its German-ness) to a very Scottish name.
I'm going from one very popular Norwegian surname (but doesn't even break top 1000 in the US) to a very popular Swedish one (also in the top 5 in the US)
From short Irish name to a very long Lithuianian name that's not pronouced like it's spelled at all. I miss my old name.
I went from an English name to an Indian last name. I love it!
@meggyo: I love the looks I get when people try to figure out why my pasty self has an Indian last name, too. :) (Mine isn't a long Indian name, though. It's only seven letters and easy to pronounce. I lucked out!)
I'm sticking with my Russian last name. :-) FI's SUPER Italian last name just sounded too odd with my very Russian first name.
I'm going from a Bohemian last name to an Irish one. But I look Irish anyways so I doubt anyone will think a thing of it :)
My maiden name was one of the top 20 most common surnames in the US and it has English origins. My new name is also English, but it's ranged over 19,000... so hardly anyone has heard of it before.
Went from a Welsh/English last name--popular (think a famous "muffin") to a seriously Mexican/Latino/Spanish last name (think A-"Rod"). Needless to say, I don't think I'm dark enough for my new last name!
I will be going from an Irish last name to a British last name. I will be hyphenating them.
I'm going from a not-very-heard-of Hispanic last name to a very popular Hispanic last name, hehe.
@deetroitwhat: I am also now a "Rod"
I'm going from a very simple Welsh last name to a more complicated German last name. My married name is shorter than my maiden name... but it's difficult for people to pronounce.
@CaraMia10: I love it!! I feel like I have the largest family on Earth lol :)
