I had a Sweetheart neckline (still strapless). Looked completely fine on me. One way to avoid the back fat is to have the dress fitted properly and stand up straight.
Mine is V neck, I'm pretty small up top and needed some help to create the illusion of cleavage
I went with the sweetheart neckline for this reason. I didn't seem to give me that under arm fat like the straight across neckline did. But since 98% of the dresses out there are strapless I do have a strapless gown.
Mine was sweetheart AND strapless...but I put sweetheart because I think that's more of a neckline style and strapless is a dress style.
wow now im scared!!! i have wide shoulders, but i choose for a strapless dress slightly sweetheart..if it makes sense! i mean, ive always pictured a wedding gown to be strapless so i really couldnt think of any other styles when i went dress shopping... UGH! i hope i didnt make a mistake!
Mine is strapless. I agree that some strapless dresses don't suit some people but I think that also has a lot to do with the fabric and the cut and the physical shape of the person wearing it.
I'm not sure what mine is, it's like a combination between sweetheart and v-neck. It is strapless, but the neckline isn't rounded like a sweetheart, but more triangular like a v-neck.
Yeah, I don't really like straight cut across strapless dresses either, they aren't flattering on many people. I like sweetheart a lot.
@coffeekitty: I think it's both! Mine is two different things as well.
@coffeekitty, I'd say off the shoulder and v neck, it's not as round as a sweetheart. But in the poll I'd classify it as off the shoulder. (very pretty by the way!)
I tend to agree that the strapless trend isn't flattering on a lot of people, but it's just so freakin' popular that it's a style that most brides end up with b/c of inventory. My dress was V-neck, though I didn't love the cut, it looked pretty good and was comfortable - no adjusting all night :)
I was avoiding strapless and my first choice was one shoulder, but I couldn't find a one shouldered dress I loved. I ended up with a cowl neck- I love it!
@coffeekitty - i have that dress, i call is off the shoulder.. lol, do you have any pics of yourself in that dress?
That quote is crazy. I think people either love the strapless or hate it. I don't think I've ever seen someone who strapless didn't flatter, but maybe I only know a lot of fake people? ;)
Anyway, my dress is strapless, but I would like to make it into a small sweetheart, if possible. Currently I'm waiting for it to come in...

I read on a photographers website to "beware of the strapless dress: strapless dresses only flatter a very small percentage of REAL people..." and that got me thinking, I wonder what style dress everyone went with. I personally got a strapless dress & I love it!
Which neckline style did you go with?
