Hey Mrs. Bees,
I’m curious – looking back on your wedding, what detail (s) weren’t worth the stress? I feel like a lot of the planning process has made me think in depth about details that I never would have thought I’d care about (like which of 20 purple color bridesmaids dresses is exactly right), but then when the choices are put in front of you, all of the sudden I spend all sorts of energy caring about this detail! Don’t get me wrong, this is half of the fun. But I imagine that some of these “critical” decisions I make will be barely noticeable on the big day! Any details stand out for you that looking back were not worth the stress you but into them?

I made a pomander out of tulle… It was round “enough”… apparently my mom didn’t think so and stressed herself out making a new one. It really was a big ‘ol who gives a shit.

There was nothing that I really stressed much over. However, I wish I had stressed out more about the DJ and paid alittle more. The one we had was just horrible!

Also commenting for follow up, I’m obsessed with the details!

all the bridesmaids related details. As long as they are in the same dress, (or coordinating dresses), the rest just does not matter. I didn’t really sress over it but really, I wouldn’t put any thought into it. No one was looking at their shoes or hair or makeup or nails or accessories. My mom flipped out that one of my bridesmaids wanted to wear flats to our formal wedding. The dresses were long. I told her to go ahead. You seriously could not tell nor was anyone looking at her feet.

I spent way too much time making table numbers. (Like, a half hour each for 30 of them.) In hindsight, I just should have printed out numbers on cardstock.

I made rocks that I planed to use as seat markers-
well we ended up not having a seating chart- after I spent 3 hours trying to make one….
so I have a huge box of personalised rocks beacuse they got put out at the rehersal dinner instead- and no one knew they could take them! – can you say christmas preseants!
Worrying about my BM dress color- now anyone would have done what I did but My sister lives in denmark and ordered her dress before she left in june- her dress came in septermber and was the wrong color- with no time to send it back – it was almost WHITE! agh!
So then my MOH was supposed to get a silvery blue ( gunpowder ) dress- it came in … a dark dark blue-
so I was frantic about my last BM and having her match the werid white purple of my first- I also added purple in last miunte to try and match her dress- and so I was trying to get BM in purple MOH in blue- well my BM said she bought a dress so i was all content
well my closest sister wasn’t going to come to the wedding cause of money $ and travel ( she lives in HI) – but they surpised me! Kept it a secret for 6 months! My cousin was in on it too and never had even bought the dress she sent me a picture of- hours of fake dress shoping all for a suprise!
buttttttttttttt my sisters dress had come in an almost red purple
3 days before my wedding and non of my dresses matched my colors!
but it ended up working in its own way

WELCOME BAGS. Ugh. Soooooo not worth it. Waste of money, waste of mental energy.
I also shouldn’t have stressed so much about the menu selections (I had a stations reception). I thought so hard about the right combination of meat/seafood/non-meat options. I seriously felt stressed out about disappointing people, and in the end, it was all tasty food, people liked it, and there was flowing free booze, which meant that everyone was feeling good, so why did I care so much?
Other than that, nothing really. I didn’t have a bridal party, so I’m sure that helped!

I wish my bridesmaids had just worn whatever. I still feel guilty that they had to buy a particular dress to wear for one stupid day. (In fact I wish we hadn’t had a wedding party at all — but I compromised because it was something my husband really wanted.)
I wish I had stuck to my original wish to have one of my aunts do my hair. She would have done every bit as good of a job, I could have slept in and spent more time with her, and I could have saved a few hundred bucks.
I could have gone cheaper on the invites, too. We went with letterpress and they were gorgeous, but in the end, who cares.

Actually, looking back I don’t have any regrets on the items in the poll. I guess for the paper products I wish I spend a little more money on a real cutter to make things go a bit quicker…and for my BMs I was already really laid back about what they wore and I’m happy with that decision. Only thing I spent more money on than I would have liked was for hair and makeup, because I had issues with more than one vendor and paid for all the tests plus extra transportation for the destination wedding. Overall though, I’m happy I put in the effort I did, because it was my wedding and I had a fun time with it without going over the top and losing sight of what is important.

red_pepper_gal: Bummer that it took so long, but I do love the way they turned out!!

I voted flower related because I don’t think people noticed how freaking awesome they were. BUT, I enjoyed the crap out of them so it was actually my favorite part.
Now that I think back, though, it was all the time I worried about how to infuse my own vodka and tequila. Nobody touched the tequila (it was disgusting), and the vodka was ruined as soon as my (well meaning) uncle added sugar and lemon juice because he mistook it for the lemonade dispenser.
