I’ve been engaged for about three weeks now, and FI and I are starting to think about a budget for our wedding. I’m not aware of any hard rules for wedding budgets like there are for engagement rings (ie: two month’s salary) but I wondered if there was correlation between price of engagement ring and wedding budget.
So Bees: What percentage of your wedding budget was your engagement ring?
As an example with easy math for my benefit: the engagement ring was $1,000 and the wedding budget was $10,000 so the ring to wedding percentage was 10%. Got it?

@p2b: my ring cost $589 wedding bands were $299 (mine) and $304 (his)
wedding budget including rings and honeymoon is so far coming in at $25000

Oops, I voted wrong. I thought it was out of the total so i voted 30-40%, but should have voted 40-50%. The wedding was a little over double wwhat my ring cost.

My ring was $6,000.
Our wedding, including honeymoon was $35,000.

My percentage comes out to be 9% if I do the math you put in your original post.

we didn’t include my rings into the wedding budget. they were purchased before the wedding planning started. if we had included them, the budget would have increased drastically (300%) and they would have taken up close to 75% of the budget.

My ring was $15k. Our wedding was approximately $50k. So about 30%.

Our bands are less than 1% of the wedding budget together. My engagement ring was 10%, but we are not including my engagement ring in the wedding budget. Most of the budget, about 70% will be going to pay for food, drink, and cake at the reception.

@pinkshoes: It’s a little confusing the way I worded it, but I couldn’t think of how to make it any clearer!
My engagement ring was about $20k and we’re thinking between $60-70k for the wedding. I didn’t know if it was in line with the percentages other people were spending.
It guess a lot of it probably comes down to the number of guests, etc. which is why there isn’t a specific rule about it.

Also, I updated the polling question because I meant engagement ring to wedding cost, not wedding rings as part of the total. Sorry for the confusion!

We did not include my engagement ring in the budget since it was paid for in full and given before wedding planning could happen.
My ring was $5,300. I bought my fiances wedding band a few weeks after we got engaged for a total of $340, so this cost was also not taken from our wedding budget.
As of right now including our honeymoon cost we are looking at a total of $23,000, but this is not exact hoping it ends up being more around $22,000 once our entree selections go in for a max of 135 guests.

I think 14%? My ring was about $100, and we’re looking at about $700 for the wedding event now (not including wedding bands)

Ours was around 3% – FI’s grandmother gave us the diamond for my ring, so we only paid for the setting, which was aroun $2,500. Our total budget its $65K (which doesn’t include my dress or the honeymoon).

E-Ring was $1550, wedding is costing around $17000 (note that e-ring is not included in wedding budget, but wedding rings are)
So around 9% 🙂

My ring was $2500 but my entire wedding (destination elopement) was $7000.
