@TheLawrenceBride:  I wore a drop-waist ball gown and wore a mermaid styled crinoline skirt underneath it because I wanted the “poof” to start a little lower and the drop waist crushed part of the ball gown style crinoline skirt. For that dress I would wear a ball crinoline skirt, for even have a local semstress sew in extra crinoline if you don’t want to wear multiple things. I don’t think you need to worry about it being too heavy, because my dress was really heavy too and the crinoline was just fine. I didn’t want it SUPER poofy, just kind of normal poofy (like in the picture above).

I am not sure a hoop skirt would look good with that dress even. You know, you could always wait for the dress to get in, and then take it shopping with you and try it on with different options before you buy a skirt!

@TheLawrenceBride:  Glad I could help! I agree with you, hoop skirts are super uncomfortable and I dislike the “bounce” when you walk. Just feels uncomfortable all around.

I had to try on a few different crinoline skirts to find the one that was just right for me, so I really think it would be your best option. Make sure you call ahead and make an appointment! Let them know you’re looking to buy a skirt to go under your dress, and that you will be bringing your dress in. That way they can prepare a dressing room for you, and you won’t be having to wait around for one (or worse, be sent home!).
