Ok - so I had my yearly this morning (woohoo, fun! lol) - and talked to my doc about mr. junebride and I TTC immediately after the wedding in June. She gave me some information on what to do and told me to stop my pills after my last one in May...And of course told me to take pre-natal vitamins.

Just curious if any of you already take them and what brand you've found that don't make you sick?...

I take a ton of stand-alone vitamins (Vitamin D, CLA, Vitamin B complex, etc...) but whenever I take a multi it makes me nausious...namely the last one was centrum.

So I'm just curious what you all take for your pre-natals (if you do) and if it makes you nausious...(yes, obviously I know everyone is different...but i'm just curious! thanks!)

hey there!  My favorites, by far, are the Trader Joes prenatals.  Im out and now taking the GNC ones, which are good also, but love TJs.  And if I take them on an empty stomach, I will vomit.  I have to take them WHILE im eating, not ven ust after.

I take the Pre-Nexa prenatal vitamins.  I get them from my OBGYN's office, but here's the website, too.  Pre-Nexa has plant-based DHA, which supposedly makes it less likely to have toxins in it.  Also, I found they're a lot easier on my tummy than other pre-natals I tried.  Although, if you find pre-natals make you ill, my doctor said a lot of people just take two Flintstone's vitamins, which is equivalent to a regular pre-natal.

I would suggest getting some samples from your doctor before buying a big box of pills, too.  Some make you nauseous or sick, but you won't know how you respond to them until you try.  I bought a bunch of pre-natals from my local health food store at the beginning of my pregnancy, and I never even finished the first bottle.  :(  Waste of money.

I at first got the ones you can buy at Costco.  They are NatureMade Liquid Softgels with DHA.  They were inexpensive and had all the good brain development components... BUT... They make me really sick... I remember one day I popped my prenatal on the way to a meeting before I'd gotten a chance to eat and it made me throw up :(

So in consultation with my OB, I started taking 2 Flinstones vitamins daily.  They've got iron and most of the other stuff I need.

I take the Target brand pre-natal and they are great.  I think they are the "Up and Up" line of products.  They are good because they don't have a bad taste like some vitamins and they don't have too much calcium so they won't cause kidney stones.  Plus they are cheap!  I always take them right after breakfast and have never had any upset stomach problems.

I always got sick with my prenatals, so I just took a generic brand and that seemed to work ok. But start by buying a small bottle, just to see. Also, take them at like night or something so that if you do feel sick, you will be asleep! (thats what I had to do!!!)

I take the Trader Joe's ones, but my OB/GYN (at Kaiser) really recommends the ones they sell in the pharmacy.  They are cheaper and smaller!

She also said that if I end up feel ill when taking them, just to find a Folic Acid supplement as that is the key thing for preventing birth defects.

I don't take prenatals but my multivitamin is Rainbow Light...all natural.  A really cheap place to order vitamins like this which can sometimes be expensive is www.vitacost.com  They sell Rainbow Light!  They also have really good reviews of vitamins!

thanks all! i have both a TJ's and a whole foods near me...the doc 's paper also suggested I take 1200 mg of calcium and 400iu of Vitamin D (I already take usually 2000 iu Vitamin D)...

it states specifically "taking a daily vitamin with 400 mcg of folic acid before becoming pregnant reduces the chance of having a baby with a spinal defect"

so it looks as if I will be vitamin shopping again! which is good cuz I'm out of a few others I take. :)

I take the Target brand. It doesn't make me sick, but then BC pills didn't bother me either, so I may just not get sick from anything.LOL

I take Buried Treasure Pre-natal Complete with DHA...it's a liquid pre-natal...usually pill vitamins in any form make me sick and this one doesn't at all...and it's suppose to have the iron that's non constipation forming...and it tastes good! (or as good as vitamins are suppose to taste) Laughing

I also take them before bed and have not had any nausea.  I am just using the CVS brand.

Zippy Zoos :)  Which is the Kroger knock off of Flinstones :)  I was so sick and the 'real' prenatals just seemed to make things worse.  The OBGYN told me these would be just fine.  Plus they taste yummy!

I take the women's prenatal from GNC. It doesn't ever make me feel ill, but lots of other vitamins do, so I think it is an especially good formula.

I got Rainbow Lite.  I'm vegetarian, so I didn't have too many options.  I haven't started taking them yet, but they have a lot of good reviews on amazon.com

I'm taking Nature Made tablets while TTC, probably will switch to the Nature Made with DHA once I know I'm pregnant.  The tablets are pretty inexpensive, meet the USP guidelines for absorption, are quite small, and no artificial colors/flavors/preservatives, etc.

Also has lower vitamin A than a lot of other prenatals out there, 4000 IU - all as beta carotene.  March of Dimes says more than 5000 IU per day can be detrimental.

I am also taking the Target brand; they were recommended by a friend as the only ones that didn't make you nauseous and have the coating to help your stomach.  My OB also recommended 1mg of folic acid daily, so to supplement the 800 mcg's I bought a 400 mcg tablet. They haven't made me nauseous and they are really affordable! I think 200 tablets are about $8.99
