I have one of the new cannon three in ones and It worked great. It did take me a while to figure out the setting both on the computer and on the printer for the paper but once I did it was all easy. I did these on it with heavy cardstock:

I just bought an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus for my invitations (needed a new printer anyway), and I love it so far. It has pigment-based ink instead of dye-based, which is less likely to smear or rub off. I don't have a photo on hand right now at work, but it prints beautifully on my linen-textured cardstock, which was my main requirement. Edges are sharp and clear and the color is quite true as well.
I have a Brother laser and it did an ok job... not a great job. Def change the settings on your printer for heavy paper. My paper had little dips and valleys and I noticed that the ink would start to wear off... but it did the trick... I wasn't too picky.

I have DIY invitations that I'll be printing myself, does anyone suggest a laser jet over an ink jet or vice versa?
Any specific models I should consider?
