I can see this being contentious. It is also very dependent on where you live.

For my area of Greater London, and my social group:

Average: 0.25-0.5

Large: 0.75 or greater

Small: there is no small!

In my area I’d say:

Small – 0.25 ct and under

Average – 0.3 -0.5 ct

Large – 0.7 to 1 ct

I very rarely see anything over 1 ct here. I have only ever seen 1 person that owned a 2 ct diamond, she brought it in for an inspection at the jewellery store I work at. No one I know personally has anywhere close to that size.

I’m not really sure about my area, but in my mind I always thought a carat and under was pretty average, 1-2 carats is starting to get into big territory, and 2+ I really start to go ‘wow’ because I just don’t see them very often in real life. I’m in a big city in western Canada.

ive heard average is 7. When i visit stores, they tend to carry size 7. My ring finger is between a size 8.5-9, depending on the ring though.

Puerto Rico: culturally We are not crazy about spending a fortune on e-rings and do not associate the size and cost of ring with how much your fiance loves or doesn’t love you. We do not feel that we are not enough if we get a small diamond or stone.

I would say the average has to be .50 -.75 maybe? And simulants and clusters are pretty common too. And plain bands are not super common but not rare for couples. I don’t know I guess we are pretty laid back. No one looks down on you if you have a small stone or much less look down because it’s too big. It is what it is and I don’t think people even ask about sizes much or prices. It’s more like oohh let’s see the ring! Pretty! Congrats! Done. LOL

Germany: None. It’s all about matching plain wedding bands for him and her. Although now the women’s band is starting to have a small diamond or gemstone incrusted in the band.

I’m not sure what is big or small in my area. .25 or less is small I guess. .3-.7 is about average maybe? Anything else is big. I’m not sure. I never ask people what the size of their rings are, so that is just a guess.
