At the time of our wedding, my little brother will be 12. I want him to be included, but I don’t know what he should do. I asked if he wanted to do a reading, but he is kind of iffy about that. He is a little shy and doesn’t want to speak in front of everyone. He’s a little old to be the ring bearer, right? I was thinking about letting my 4 year old (only)nephew do that. I considered junior groomsman, but we don’t have a girl to be a junior bridesmaid. Any ideas?

I think Junior groomsman is cute and appropriate. You don’t have to have a matching junior Bridesmaid or Best Man.

I agree – my 11 yr old nephew will be a junior groomsman. My 8 year old niece may or may not be a jr bridesmaid. It depends on how she feels that morning and if she’s ready to face her fans. She’s probably just gonna steal all my thunder lol

What about having him escort the older people to their people to their seats. That would be cute….

What about escorting your Mom to her seat?

jr groomsman or just usher?

I think usher/escort sound better. Having him be groomsman he has to stand in front of everyone. Might not be something he wants to do if he is shy.

i think using him as an escort would be great. i had my 2 neices/goddaughters aged 12 & 15 act as escorts for my guests. they also read a poem at the ceremony.
you have almost 2 years before the wedding. you don’t need to make any decisions today. your brother may mature a lot in the next 2 yrs and become more confident to read a poem.
a junior gm would be ok without a jr bm.

My two younger brothers are going to be ushers and then walk down the aisle with our parents. They are 14 and 22.

When it’s closer, you might also consider asking him what he’d be comfortable doing. His attitude and confidence wil likely change over two years. He might also have an idea of what he wants to do.
Also, keep in mind that kids that age change quite a bit. What he wants to do now, he might not want to do in 2 years. I’d wait to figure it out.

You don’t need a girl– let him be a junior groomsman, and he can walk by himself, or with the flower girl (if you’re having one)
