I believe rounds are supposed to…but honestly I havent seen a round in person sparkle as much as my princess; maybe because she’s a little bigger in size than most in my area and she is cut beautifully!Wink.

Round brilliant is supposed to be “ideally” cut for sparkle & table size. It, of course, will depend upon the quality of your cut, color & clarity.

If it’s a round brilliant that is “perfectly” cut then it will sparkle more as well as appear slightly larger than it really is .. Making a 1ct look more like a 1.5. All shapes can have modified cuts that make them sparkle more but a round is the most symmetrical and does not have sharp corners that can  trap light

But I still prefer a princess cut  I don’t know why I guess it seems a little more modern

I’ve also heard rounds sparkle the most, and I tend to agree. I think it depends on the cut a great deal as well though (for example, a poorly cut round probably won’t sparkle as much as an excellently cut princess, cushion, etc.). Also, I’ve noticed that some cuts have a different type of sparkle. I looked at many, many rings and all different cuts while searching for mine. Rounds seemed to “give off” the most “shooting” sparkle, but pears (and some radiants) seemed to sparkle more on the inside (almost like they had glitter inside them). Maybe I’m crazy, but I saw it over and over again.

I’ve also heard round sparkles the most. Anecdotally, my princess cut sparkles way more than my mother’s round diamond. I guess it depends on many other factors than just the cut.

A normal round cut has around 54 facets and a modified round briliant like the “Leo” at Kay’s or the “sitara” at littman Jewelers and I’m sure a lot of jewelry stores have there own band name for it those rounds have 80-100 facets that’s why they sparkle more other shapes that have modified cuts don’t have that many facets

@Diamond88:  This is a good point. There are so many different variations of almost every cut (whether it be from a brand like Leo or just poor vs. excellent quality) that it’s almost impossible to say that all rounds will sparkle more than all other cuts. You definitely have to see each particular one in person to say for sure.

For diamonds of comperable quality in different cuts, a round brilliant will sparkle most.
