Hi Bees! Need some help.
My SO & I have never been to a wedding at a Vineyard so I need some advice from anyone who has been. It is at a vineyard in NY, this summer, starting at 5pm. Ceremony & Reception at the vineyard. Are tan-colored pants appropriate, or should he go with black to be safe? Is a sports jacket necessary or shirt and tie ok? Its going to be hot, but I dont want him to be the most casual guest there…. The invitation didnt specify any type of dress code, and I dont really want to have to ask the bride because she will likely say “doesnt matter!”
Mostly looking for people to tell me what they have seen men wear at vineyard weddings in the summer. Thank you!

I just went to one in April. My FI wore black pants and a shirt and tie. I think khaki pants would be fine though in summer. I don’t think he needs a jacket

It sounds like she is an easy-going bride. I’m sure he’d be find in a nice pair of Khaki pants with a dress shirt – no jacket (too hot!!!)

@nenedo12: I would absolutely tell him to bring a sport coat. If it’s too hot, he can always just drape it on the back of his chair. Tan slacks with a navy sport coat should be perfect for a vineyard wedding.
As (the proverbial) “they” always say, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.

I think since it’s summer and outdoors, khaki colored is fine. Maybe a blue or lavender shirt with a collar and tie. I think guys look sexy in light colored pants and vests during the summer, but that may be a little hot.

@nenedo12: I think it depends on where in NY the vineyard is. The last time I went to a wedding held at a vineyard in Long Island the venue was quite fancy and the men wore suits. Given that it is an evening wedding, I think dark pants and a sports coat would be the minimum. If, however this is in a more rural area, say upstate NY, I’d guess that khakis would be fine but I’d still bring a sport coat.
Perhaps the best way to ask the bride without being direct is to ask what the groom and groomsmen are wearing and scale back one level from that.
