Vests. Have them wear vests and ties. Not as formal as the groom, but not as “young” as the groomsmen.

can the dad just wear suits that they already own?

my dad is bummed he can’t wear his tux but he decided that since the groom and GM are just wearing suits, he’d look silly in a tux. i happen to agree but would have let him wear whatever he wanted to.

@Nola: i get that he’s being sentimental and not creepy 🙂

that is a conundrum though. does his dad own a blazer that he could wear with slacks for the ceremony? or could he just buy a blazer that goes with slacks he already owns? that would be a lot cheaper than buying a full suit.

@Nola: not creepy at all…it made me tear a bit though.  Don’t knock the suspenders for older men – there is an elderly lawyer where I work who wears suspenders every day and he’s one of the best dressed guys in the office!!

My dad is going to wear a tux, FI’s dad will probably wear one also.

In my daughter’s wedding, the groom refused to wear a tie, but did wear a linen suit (it was on the beach). GM wore linen pants and shirts. Both Dads wore linen suits and ties, as my husband would have never not been dressed to walk his daughter down and the groom’s Father felt he’d be too underdressed to not wear a suit either. That being said, I personally think both Fathers should wear suits, but they don’t have to ‘match’ anyone either.

Oh no, not only suspenders, I thought he was going to wear a jacket also… Why doens’t he want to rent a suit for this? I don’t get that at all. Personally, I think every man should own (at least!) one suit, but I guess not everyone feels the same way.
