We are having a cthedral wedding at 4:00pm and then reception at a restaurant that loks over the river and sky line (its a formal wedding). Should the groom wear a bow-tie or a tie, a suit with a tail etc and what shold the groomsmen wear? (dont worry about colors)

Black is always a great place to start when you want to go FORMAL. If you’re looking for a classic look the bowtie is always cute but if you want to add a modern flare go for a tie. I’m not a fan of tails so I wouldn’t do them but I think that is a personal preference. You can alwayd do cumberbuns those are fomal as well (although I’m not a fan of these either). I’m not one for a lot of color especially if sticking to TRADITIONAL Foraml wear. Black and white for the groom maybe a splash of some color for the goomsmen’s by way of tie, etc… It truely depends on how you invison your wedding to look.

It really depends on how you want your wedding to look. Classic, fancy, semi-formal, etc. Bowties are always a good classic look and can dress up the occasion. Tails are nice but it really depends on what your FI wants. I’d ask him. I was thinking tails would be nice for my FI but he didn’t want them, so we’re going with a slim cut tux with bow tie. I also feel that cumberbunds are fancier looking than the vests. But that’s just what I think. lol. We went with black tux with ivory tie for my FI and then instead of going the same color of the BM’s for the GM, we went grey. It felt less prom-my (matchy-matchy) and more elegant.
I think in the end you need to ask FI what he wants and then figure out how formal/fancy you want your overall wedding look to be.
PS: I’d also skip the tails if your girls are wearing short dresses… since short BM dresses aren’t really formal.

My husband really wanted to wear a tie, and I really wanted the groosmen to be different and I wanted somebody to wear a bow tie, so Groom wore tie, and groosmen wore bowties and i cant stand tails, he doesnt like them either, so that was out of the question!
thy all wore the new Vera Wang tux, its light weight and made from a very comfortable material!
