Hi ladies! I am looking for some advice – – sorry if this is long!
FI and I are getting married December 31, 2010. We have been engaged since April, but FI works out of state 3 months a year, so he left very shortly after our engagement.
While he was gone, I did a LOT of research. He wanted to be there personally for tours, etc. and since we are having a fairly long engagement, I kept my planning to emails and phone calls. I work in events at a hotel, so I am pretty familiar with what our area (pop. 90,000) has to offer.
I found 2 potential venues – One was VERY misleading and parking was a major issue, and the other one was horrendous in person. We briefly considering doing our reception at my hotel, but decided against it, due to the fact that I have done countless weddings here, am the only event planner, etc.
I found a venue that we toured last week, and we both fell in love. It is a historic home – with a huge granite ballroom. You basically rent out the entire house. It has 4 large suites, 4 full bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, fully furnished basement and game room, in additional to the ballroom.
Having done events, the space doesn’t seem ideal for a dinner reception. We are having a 7:00 ceremony, with a 8:30-1:00am reception. Should I suck it up and do the full dinner, or just cocktails, heavy apps, cocktail tables, etc.
The venue is hard to describe. Basically a giant house with a massive ballroom. The ballroom has windows all around, and it sits in the woods.
