I know this sounds corny, but the YMCA gets everyone at the dancefloor. At least it's not the chicken dance?!
I like the electric slide and those kind of songs..it usually works for all ages and people can follow what they tell you to do :D
Cupid Shuffle (everyone from my 6yr old to my 56yr old mom can do this one)
Electric Slide
Cha Cha slide
All these popular line dances is great
Thanks so much for responding. Please keep them coming!! My brain is exploding and I could really use the help!
Not that I haven't seen the electric slide at a zillion weddings, but I just spent about 15 minutes watching them on youtube. Very entertaining...but you are right as much as I did not picture that being in the play list....that one gets everyone up and dancing for sure. Thank you.
I loooove Usher and Justin Timberlake songs because they are good and have a great beat but aren't gross and sexual!! :) eVEN lADY Gaga's Just Dance will get me out there:)
I agree with honeybun - 80's, Michael Jackson - great dance songs there!
And Jackson Five!
And I love Crazy in Love by Beyonce
I need to start thinking about this stuff...agh!
Lately at the weddings I've been ditching mid-convo to get my booty to the dance floor for:
Sexy Back
Cupid Shuffle
Shout (Animal House anyone??)
Sweet Caroline (so overplayed, but doesn't everyone have fun singing along?)
You gals are awesome, great suggestions. Keep it coming. Sweet Caroline is a must for us, FI is a major Red Sox Fan. It is a fun song to sing though, I agree.
I'm hoppin' on the band wagon...Michael Jackson. Earth, Wind and Fire gets us groovin' as well. Gotta love the funk.
Proud Mary, I Can't Get No Satisfaction, Respect, I Will Survive, Dancin' in the Streets, All Day and All of the Night (Kinks), You Really Got Me (Kinks) all get me dancing.
Songs that make me want to hide in the bathroom? YMCA, bunny hop, electric slide and the chicken dance. Yikes, not my thing at all.
Journey, "Don't Stop Believing" and Bon Jovi, "Livin on a Prayer" are just few of many on our must play list!
We played 'American land' by Bruce Springsteen immediately after our first dance and that really got people up and moving
Ha! I was going to say Don't Stop Believing. Thats a song you can't help but belt to. 70s and 80s! Electric Slide.
I love 70's and 80's too but figured that was just my age shining through - geez I hope not!!
Chicken dance, macarena, bunny hop...all on the do NOT play list.
I was skeptical of the electric slide, but apparently it's pretty popular. I don't even know how to do it. I have never gone out to dance when that one comes on. I guess I might be the bore of the crowd, eh?
What else you guys got? We have lots of dancing to do...
Of all the wedding I've been to, "Shout" seems to be the song that gets the most people on the dance floor because it appeals to young guests and older guests alike. For the younger guests, Justin Timberlake works, as does Michael Jackson, and most 80s stuff.
Pretty much the same stuff that gets me going at piano bars and parties.
Classic 80s music, Don't Stop Believin, Shout, Sweet Caroline, etc etc
Our friends have a tradition to dance to "Friends in Low Places" at weddings. It always gets us all dancing!
Why yes...I did go through our "must play" list ;-)
BROWN EYED GIRL-Van Morrison
GET UP/SEX MACHINE- James Brown
HEY YA- Outcast
I FEEL GOOD-James Brown
I WILL SURVIVE-Gloria Gaynor
MUSTANG SALLY-Wilson Pickett
PROUD MARY-Tina Turner
RESPECT -Aretha Franklin
SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND-The Jacksons
SHOUT -Isley Brothers
SWEET CAROLINE- Neil Diamond
SWEET HOME ALABAMA-Lynyrd Skynyrd (Depending on where you are having your wedding!)
YES @cbgg! That song gets me ROCKIN'!
Also, want to second/third the'80s music... I've found that "Footloose" also gets people going!
For my group of friends, "Hey Ya" never fails! Also, "Say Hey" by Michael Franti and "Boom Boom Pow" by Black Eyed Peas were big hits at my wedding. Although, if your guests love to dance like my family and friends, it won't really matter what you play!
Moni Moni, Love Shack man I love dancing to somewhat older crazy stuff.. Power of Love, Addicted to Love, I totally second Shout and all the pre choreographed dances like electric slide.
Twist and Shout - The Beatles. My absolute fave part of Ferris Bueller and it would get me on the dance floor, even if I had to go alone!
At my wedding, these were big hits:
B52s - "Love Shack"
The Troggs - "Wild Thing"
Jet - "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
I love disco! Maybe too much! "You Sexy Thing"; "Get Down Tonight"; Can't Get Enough of Your Love" are on our playlist. Also: C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat" and I love all the old Sinatra and Dean Martin classics. OK so I just dated myself...yes.. I'm an older bride:-) My parents were laughing at my playlist cause even though I'm older, my playlist is even older than that - like I should have been born 10 years before I was.
I'll dance to pretty much anything, but some of my favorites
- old standards like "Shout" and "The Twist"
- Cupid Shuffle and the Cha Cha Slide (we actually had our wedding party start off the dancing to the Cha Cha Slide)
- Love Shack, Cecilia, Piano Man
These are all great. Keep them comin'.
We should make our own little "must play list" on weddingbee!

Okay...so I've been racking my brain lately trying to figure out music that will get our guests out on the dance floor. We really want everyone to have a great time at our wedding. Now I know I need to have a mix of all genres and for all ages, but if you guys could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
What song got your out of your chair and onto the dance floor at a wedding you have been a guest of?
