If you like Ave Maria I would go with that! Screw what anyone else thinks.

If Ave Maria is what you want and it’s meaningful to you, then absolutely go with that. The song you walk down the aisle to, isn’t going to change anyone’s views about the “realness” of your wedding, and you should be happy and excited walking down the aisle.

Use whatever song you want.

Remember that your elopement was your wedding. You are now technically renewing your vows. It doesn’t matter what you call your celebration. The point is you are sharing a joyous occasion with family.

We eloped as well and my family was very upset, which is part of the reason we are having a vow renewal next October. They are referring to our vow renewal as our “wedding” because they were not present when we eloped. I will be using a lot of wedding elements though.

People will think what they want for a quick minute but its not like they will spend countless hours talking about it so who cares what they think.  I went to 3 weddings last summer and I honestly couldnt tell you what song they walked down to.  The bride and groom are pry the only ones who remember which is why its always best to do what you want to do.  If you love Ave Maria then do it.  Its beautiful!

Ave Maria would be so beautiful! Do what you want! Like other bees said, that is not going to have any effect on how poeple view the wedding. And I know this isn’t what you asked about, but if I were you, I’d try not to get too bothered by what people are calling it. It is technically a vow renewal even if you eloped. They probably aren’t trying to be hurtful. If you see it as your “wedding” then that’s awesome and that’s all that matters, but you can’t force other people to see it that way.
