How about recording yourself playing piano onto a CD? That way it'll sound like the real deal and not a karaoke-cheesy type thing.
I've sang at lots of weddings-are you talking about singing during the ceremony or reception? Do you have any friends who play guitar? i think singing acapella is fine-I've done that at weddings too and it is always a hit. What kind of music do you like?
Do you have any family or friends who could accompany you on acoustic guirtar? I think it's so sweet you'll be singing to your (new!) husband!
Agree on the acoustic guitar idea -- if they can't accompany you that day, maybe they could record a track for you to sing along with on your wedding day?
As for which song to sing, I suggest Lucky by Jason Mraz & Colbie Calliat.
It's a really lovely song and even though it's a duet, it could be easily sung by one person.

Hey ladies - thanks for the ideas!
Piano and guitar accompaniment are both good ideas. Guitar is probably more practical, since we won't be in a location with a piano on hand :)
As you may have guessed from the first song selection, I'm a fan of classic jazz. So pretty. My fiancé and I both love bluegrass and americana style music, too. I don't care so much for the power ballad type love song, modern country music or pop. Picky, picky! But keep up the ideas - any style song can be beautiful!
Patty Griffin-"Heavenly Day" ever hear it? it's an awesome song and REALLY fun to sing...and every singer should get to know Patty Griffin! =)
It's on her myspace:
What about "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. Totally simple, fun song. My sister sang it during me and Mr. Powder Puff's wedding ceremony. Our guests loved it!
Mrs. Powder Puff, I *LOVE* that song! So very sweet. Ingrid rocks....I saw her in concert once, she was terrific!
OK so I thought of this post as I discovered my heaven on earth....Vitamin String Quartet. They pretty much have done any one. So if you want something that doesn't sound karaoke try them out.

Thanks for the idea! I've heard them on NPR but hadn't thought of them in this context. Decidedly un-cheesy!
I've been listening to them constantly all day yesterday and today. haha! I love them!

So I've been thinking for a long time that I'd like to sing two songs at our wedding reception. The first would honor family members who have passed away. I think it will be "They Can't Take That Away From Me," a jazz song. But sad. So I want to sing a second, upbeat but loving song for my new husband! (how exciting to say it that way!) I have a fair range, usually sing soprano, but don't want to kill myself with the really high notes when I know I'll be nervous.
Also not sure how best to accompany myself? There is no piano. Should I just do this karaoke style? Will that be cheezy? I don't want this to seem cheap or poorly done.
