So I absolutely LOVE the holidays; everything about them–the family time, the cold, the colors, how [almost] everyone is so nice, etc.–makes me happy. The holidays also make me feel so romantic. There is just something about them that fills me with this desire to create magical moments!
What are you Bees doing for your SOs this holiday season? I don’t mean what are you getting them for Christmas. Are any of you planning special dates, or anything like that? What have y’all done in the past?

we are having a low key thanksgiving this year. it’s been a tradition to go away with my family for a week but since DH and I just honeymooned, the family trip is only going to be 2 nights away.
thanksgiving is also the first night of hanukkah, we are jewish.
DH and I met on christmas eve so i’m sure he will plan something special this year.

Our 6 year date-i-versary falls on Thanskgiving this year. I told him I was stoked because it meant we don’t have to spend money on dinner or cook! haha. I haven’t really put much thought in to what all we will be doing for the holidays though.

We visit his family every year for Thanksgiving, and I don’t tease him when his Mom treats him like a five year old! (She totally babies him, not that I don’t…)

Last year for Christmas I did a sort of advent calendar for my SO. I got him 25 small presents, like a candy bar and a package of post-it notes (he loves them), wrapped them all individually, and then hid one for him every day from the 1st of December until Christmas when I gave himh his big present. He loved it and I loved doing it, so I suggest it!

We’re getting married. I think that will last us through the holidays

We do many simple but romantic (to us) things around the holidays.
On different nights, we:
ride on the Christmas train in Stanley Park
go look at the gingerbread contest entries at the Hyatt Hotel
see the Christmas trees at the Four Seasons
walk down to the beach near our home to watch the Carol Ships , which are all lit up, go by
drive around looking at Christmas lights
do a drop in to the women’s shelter with all the toiletries I have obtained free during the year with coupons
go the German Christmas market and have spiced wine and bratwurst for supper

@ajillity81: oh how special that you met on Christmas eve! I bet that gives the day a little extra specialness and magic for you guys 🙂
@Brideonabudgetlauren: lol! we will hit our 1.5 year dating mark on new year’s eve, so I’m thinking we’ll do something then. I DEFINITELY think you get a ‘get out of cooking’ pass 🙂
@BrandNewBride: haha, I love that your special moment is that you don’t tease him. That’s so cute
@FatherTed: I did something similar last year (great minds!); I didn’t do small gifts but I wrote him notes, one each day for the 12 days of Christmas. Each note (it was more of a card) corresponded to the day of Christmas it was. Example: Day 1–“I knew you were the one from the start.” Etc.
@Penelopeee: That totally counts, and congratulations!!! 🙂

@julies1949: all of those sound wonderful! I’m thinking we’ll have to do some Christmas-y things around town like that. PS–I love that you donate toiletries. That’s awesome
@Waitingbee57: that would be fun and so romantic!

@MrsHalpert: Ahhh me and my SO had our first date on NYE too!!! 😀 This year we’re treating ourselves to three weeks of vacation. First we’re heading out to the east coast to visit friends, then to central america to visit family, wedding plan, and chill on the beach! I’m so excited!

@MrsHoneyBear: Oh my god how fun; I hope you have an AMAZING time (and happy first date-aversary)!! Our actual first date was on June 1st, but we always celebrate NYE as the halfway-to-another-year mark. Last year, we had a beautiful dinner on the rooftop terrace like classy adults, and then came back inside to play the mustache game (you cut out a mustache from paper, stick it to the TV, and every time it lines up with someone’s face, you drink). So, we got drunk watching Invader Zim, like 2 kids with sudden access to a liquor cabinet. Then we went back to adulthood for a champagne toast at midnight. lol 🙂

Thanksgiving has come and gone for us already but during December FH and I like to go skating outside down at city hall and have dinner (special date night), and through the month we go see the symphony – both of us are subscribers and we get the best tickets to all the Christmas performances.
FH and his family have introduced me to Serbian Christmas traditions as well, and their Christmas is on January 7th. So all the holiday celebrations pretty much go until then 🙂
I’m hoping to go to Niagara Falls for New Years, but that depends if we can get a hotel room. I think FH wants to do something else though, and I haven’t asked him what yet.
