It is actually an HTML tag for a space. There is a flaw in this blog that sometimes displays the HTML code that is being used to make the post look as they do.
I hope I have enlightened you 
@ejs, I hear you. It just makes the post ugly adding all that jibberish. I know there was an idea posted to prevent it. Lets see what comes out of it.

@Roddybride I hadn't seen the idea post, I'll have to look for that one and vote for it when the time comes.
Not that it prevents the problem, but if you see this code in your post after posting, I have had good luck in going back in to edit my post and deleting it so it looks clean again.
