I have a question kind of regarding alterations. My gown and cape (which I have shared many times) has this plastic border on the inside of the hem of the skirt and along the border hem of my cape. It is lightly stitched on. I skipped the whole wedding dress shopping experience so I don’t know if dresses commonly have these or not. I think it’s to help keep the fabric from flipping over on itself and is meant to help keep the tulle in place, but I just don’t like it! At least on the cape I can’t stand it for sure.
To me, it makes the tulle look heavier on the end and I would rather have it more soft and flowy. I sort of wanted to shorten my cape anyway just because I’m really short and the cape is really long. I thought if I shortened it by 6 inches, that would basiclly be taking off the entire plastic border thing.
I’m just wondering if any other bees have these things inside of their hems as well and if the dress really needs them or not? My dress is 30 minutes away at my parents house so I can’t take a picture of it, but here’s a stock photo of the dress, if you look hard at the end of the cape you can see the plastic border faintly through the tulle.
