Some friends and I were having a conversation while out at lunch today, and they were amazed at how early I have to leave my house in the morning to make it to work in time. I'm a teacher, btw, and I have to leave by about 6:30-6:45 a.m.
When do you ladies have to leave the house on a normal weekday morning? I didn't think I was THAT much of a minority- lol.
I am up at 5:30 to leave the house by 5:55/6:00 am I have to be at work by 6:30. I always give myself enough time just in case. Plus I hate clocking in and starting right away. I have to get settled first.
I leave around 8:30 to get to the office by 9/9:15.
Although I only have 1 week left of work and after that I will be rolling out of bed and right into packing tape/boxes/etc to pack up the apartment.
@brideatbeach: There are days I love it because I am out by 3, but then I hate it because I'm up so damn early. Hah. I guess getting out at 3 is a major plus.
I voted 7am since that's what time we should be leaving but it almost never happens. FI and I work for the same company so considering he's the absolute worst in the morning, we normally head out around 7:30. We have a 45 minute commute (without traffic) so we're almost always late. Thankfully we work in a pretty relaxed work environment and our bosses don't even notice/care if we're late.
@MissPumpkinPie: I leave at 6:30 a.m. and don't get home until about 6:30 p.m. because I'm a coach. :(
Once the season is over, though, I leave the house at 6:30 a.m. and get home around 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m., so then it's not so bad.
During the season, it's kind of hellish, though. haha.
Oh my good Lord, 6:30 is like the middle of the night for me! When I was temping and I had to be at an office by 8 it was torture. Sheer Hell. Lol I work from home now luckily, but I don't hit my stride until around 10:30.
@brideatbeach: I may be starting a 12 hour shift position soon though so I'd be working 7-7:30. Ugh.
My hours are flexible. If I have an early meeting at 8:30a, I'll need to be on the road by 7:30ish. On other days, I leave between 9-10:30a. It gets me out of driving in rush hour traffic. I don't usually leave work til about 6:30 to 7:30p.
We leave between 7 and 8 depending on what we have on (I drop FI to the station on the way to the office) and I have about a half hour commute. I can start anytime before 10, but like PP, the earlier I start the earlier I get my work done and the earlier I can head home!!
Usually I can get a run in in the evening before I drive back down to pick up the Mister!
I make my own hours. I don't like to be at the office before 10am. Sometimes I don't go in till after lunch but then I stay late. Owning your own business has its perks for sure. :)
I leave my house at 5:30 am to get to work by 6:00am .. i get off at 2:30 tho which is awesome... Miss rush hour around the Beltway!!
I work from home and am my own boss, so I don't have to leave, unless it is for a meetup somewhere.
During the school year, I leave around 7AM to be at school on time to prep for my first class or early morning meetings with parents on the days I teach. Since I teach part time, I substitute on the other days, and if I do that, I don't have to leave until 7:30AM.
During the summer, I work at a summer camp and don't have to leave until 8AM... that's really nice!
It depends what shift I work. I work in dietary at the hospital so last week I was 10:30 to 7, this week I am 6 am to 2:30 pm. Some days I am 7-7. Who knows?!
I usually leave around 8:00ish or 8:10ish and get to the office between 8:30-8:45. Technically my work day starts at 8:30, but my manager doesn't care/notice if I'm a little late (as long as my work gets done).
I'm a grad student/TA, so my hours depend on when I have to teach during a given semester. But it only takes me 20 minutes to walk to work.
I leave for work at 10:50am. I have a shop that operates from 11a-8p and I live super close. I go to bed around 130am every night, then get up at 930am to run, then sit on the couch like a zombie until I get ready.
When I worked my 830-530 corporate office gig, I left for work at 8am.
I would LOVE to have later hours so I could get up early, hit the gym, then go to work. But that won't be happening any time soon unless I take the night shift hah. At that rate, I'd work my night hours then go to gym after work.
I'm a nurse, had do 12 hour shifts, I leave at 6:00 am to be on the floor at about 6:25, and usually leave around 7-7:30 pm. But it's only 3 days a week for full time, which i love having 4 days a week off.
I am a retail store manager. I work in a mall. Most of the year my hours are as follows: If I open 9am-6pm If I close 12:30am-9:30pm. Sundays 11am-7pm I leave 15 minutes before I clock in. During the holidays it could be all hours as early as 7 and as late as 12. Oh the joys of retail.
I leave the house every day at 7:00 to get to work at 7:30. Every 5 weeks I go into the office a half hour later so I leave at 7:30.
I leave at 9:15am to be there by 9:30/9:45am OR 10:30am to be there by 11 am OR 1pm to be there by 1:30pm. I'm in the vast minority at my job who likes to work at night because it means I can sleep in and get more done before my shift.
I usually leave between 715-745. I arrive to work between 8-8:30. If I go to the gym first I have to leave at like 5:30...
It's weird--I leave home at 6:30am to get to work by 7:30am (25 miles away) but if I leave at 6:45am, I get to work after 8. :( Northern Virginia traffic is HORRIBLE.
It takes me about 35 minutes to get to work but thankfully I dont have to be there at any specific time. I just have to work my hours for the day or week. Most people in my group get in around 7-730... Unfortunately I'm not even awake at that time and dont usually get in until 9-930.
I voted for the flexible hours. I am a yoga teacher with a changing schedule -- sometimes I teach the 6am so I have to leave at 4:45am, other days I teach 10 am so I leave at 9...or I could leave at 3 or 5 in the afternoon if I teach a later class. Totally not predictable schedule.
I usually leave anywhere between 8 and 8:15 and get to work between 8:30 and 8:45. Sometimes I have to be in earlier, depending on what's going on. I stay until at least 6pm, usually later, though, and work from home pretty late/on weekends so I can get away with coming in any time before 9-ish. I could actually probably come in anytime I wanted before 10, but I'd rather get in a bit earlier.
I'm a teacher too. We start at 7:30. I need to be there by 7ish and it's a half an hour away. I HATE how early it is!! But I love my job.
I leave my place at 5:45am and have a 30 minute commute to work. I start at 6:30am and I'm off by 3pm, its pretty awesome.
uh, Im on a permanent graveyard shift. So I leave at 10:10p tp get to work before 11pm.
I leave at 8am to get into work by 8:30am.
