If it’s a Saturday, I would say to have the ceremony start at 5 or 6 for the evening wedding and reception and depending on what you mean by heavy. Sometimes, heavy hors d’oeurvres are more snacks and sometimes they are like meals, so that plays into the time, as well, because if it’s later, it gives guests time to eat before so they don’t come hungry expecting a big meal.

Yeah, if the snacks aren’t heavy enough to constitute a meal, I might move the reception back until 630 or7.. just to allow them time to eat. 

As far as what time for the ceremoney – that depends on how you are handling photos.  We are not doing a first look, and our church and hall are 30 minutes apart, so we have 3 hours between events.
