When my mom got married, she changed her maiden name to her legal middle name. So her name WAS Kathryn Paige Pearce, now it’s Kathryn Pearce Humphries. My family wants me to do the same thing. My name is Christen Elise Humphries, they want me to be Christen Humphries Adler. I really like Elise and don’t want to lose it. On the other hand I like the idea still having my family’s name be a part of me.
What are you guys doing/what did you do? I’ve heard of it both ways. Not sure what to do.

Is there any reason you can’t keep both and be Christen Elise Humphries Adler?

Im just adding his last name to mine, so FirstName MiddleName MaidenName HisName.
I’ve also heard of naming your first girl after your maiden name, but perhaps in your case it would probably be better to use your middle name? (Because I think naming a girl Humphries borders on child abuse)

Why not both? People have two middle names. I don’t think I’ll keep my maiden personally because it’s a “boy’s” name it would…IMO, just look really weird.
BTW, I wouldn’t really recommend putting your whole name on here. I’d edit it and at least take your last name off. Put H*******s or whatever. You know, internet safety and all that.

you said your family wants you to keep your maiden name as a middle, but it’s not their decision. what do you want?

you can keep both! i now have 4 names

It can be a pain at times, but why not just keep both names and have 2 middle names? I currently legally have 2 middle names, and even though it confuses a lot of people it makes me really happy.

I’ve considered using both. But how would you fill out documents and things that don’t have room for two middle names? Do you just pick one initial when it just asks for a middle initial?

I didn’t vote because I think you should keep both. That’s what I plan to do. I’ll be First Middle Maiden Hislast legally.

What about keeping your first and middle name as they are now and just hyphenating your last name so it includes your maiden and his last.

I will be dropping my middle name… but I will use it as a name for our first son.

Both of my brothers have four names, so I say keep them all! There’s nothing wrong with that. As far as ID’s and such, you could just keep it FirstName MiddleInitial HisLastName, but as far as your actual legal paperwork, have all four. For example, my step-brother is (fake name, but same initials) Brandon Leo Marcus Martin, but all of his ID’s just say Brandon L Martin.

I already have 2 middle names, and I love them both so I’m just dropping my maiden name.

I kept my middle name and dropped my maiden. My name is Clare Victoria and I have always loved my first and middle together. My reasoning was that my parents CHOSE my middle name but did not choose my last name so therefore I kept my middle name. I have 2 brothers so my name is still going to get carried on to future generations.

I agree with many of the posts here…just keep all names. Hyphenate your maiden name and new last name. I would give my child my maiden name but it’d be a weird name so I won’t do that. I am not married yet but when I do marry and change my name I haven’t decided if I’ll hyphenate my new last name or just drop my maiden.
Good Luck 🙂
